Speedway Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, will have their regular business meeting, March 9th, at the Masonic Temple, beginning at 8 p.m. JOHN KNOX CHURCH TO DEDICATE NEW BUILDING The John Knox United Presbyterian Church, 3000 North High, School Road, will have the dedicatory service for its new building this coming Sunday, March 7, at 4:00 p.m. Dr. Howard W. Stone, pastor of the Irvington Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis, will preach the sermon. Others participating in the service include Elder John Millar Smith, Rev. W. Marcus Kendall, Rev. Jack H. Barrell, and Rev. William A. Huber, Moderator of Indianapolis Presbytery. The building is the first unit in a master plan which allows for the growth and expansion of the congregation. The architect was Ray Thompson of James Associates and the general contractors were the Charles C. Brandt Co. Members of the Building Committee which planned for the structure were: Kent Pierce, chairman ;Karl Heilmann; T. Burt MacPhee; Howard Westbrook; Dale Fenner; Tom Ridolfo; Raymond Miller; Mrs. Fred Read; and Mrs. Roy Arnold. The Pastor of the church is the Rev. Laurence A. Sunkel, Jr. The dedication service also marks the third anniversary of the organizing of the church on March 4, 1962. Speedway Do-ers Homemakers Club The Speedway Do-ers Homemakers Club will tour American Art Clay Company, 4717 W. 16th Street, on Thursday, March 11th. Members are asked to meet at American Art Clay at 9 a.m. NEW ADULt SWIM SCHEDULE For residents of Speedway, the new night schedule for use of the high school pool becomes effective on Monday, March 8, 1965. You are invited to participate in this program. Come to one of the first meetings and enroll in the program of your choice. With summer approaching it is now time to prepare for your water activities. Monday—6:3s-7:30 p.m.: Adults Swimming and Diving Instruction; 7:35-8:30 p.m.: Recreation Swim for Speedway residents. Tuesday—6:3s-7:30 p.m.: Life Saving and Water Safety Class; 7:35-8:30 p.m: Life Saving and Water Safety Class. Wednesday Adult Swimming and Diving Instruction. Instruction; 7:35-8:30 p.m: Recreation Swim for Speedway residents. Speedway High School is offering swimming instruction to the students of the fourth through eighth grades this spring. If you want to have your children prepared for the coming summer’s water activities please enroll them during the class into which their skill level dictates. Students who are holders of the Red Cross beginners, advance beginners, intermediate, or swimmer cards should bring their card and enroll for the next level of instruction. If your child does not hold a Red Cross swim skill card and he is not sure which class he should attempt, have him enroll in a beginning class and we will adjust his schedule after we check his skill. The swim schedule is as follows: Monday—3:3s-4:05 Beginners 1 (Wheeler and Newby Schools); 4:10-4:40 —Intermed Swim; 4:455:25—7th Grade Swim Instruction. The requests and complaints were numerous but we made every effort to take care of them as soon as possible, Our Street Department crew worked night and day from Wednesday through Saturday with very little time for rest and sleep. COMMUNITY CHOIR OPENS ROLLS The Indianapolis Community Choir is now opening its membership for a limited time, until March 15th, for those who desire to join in the Choir’s final presentation of the season, “Stabat Mater,” by Giacono Rossini, to be offered at Caleb Mills Hall of Shortridge High School on the evening of May 11th. For this performance, the Community Choir will appear with the Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Wolfgang Vacano, who is Opera Conductor at the Indiana University School of Music. The Choir’s rolls are especially open to tenor and bass voices. Auditions may be arranged by contacting the Community Choir Director, Mr. William F. Guthrie, WA. 4-4207, or the Personnel Director, Mrs. Berdyne Evans, ST. 6-0566. METHODIST MEN'S CLUB DINNER Mr.. Francis Conder, a retired Army Colonel, and presently teaching Physical Science at Ben Davis High School, will be the guest speaker for the next Speedway Methodist Men’s Club dinner, Monday evening, March 15 at 6:30 pm. Mr. Conder is a graduate of DePauw University and holds a Masters Degree from Indiana University. He will speak on the subject of “Atomic Energy and Space.” All men of Speedway are welcome to attend this dinner. Tickets are $1.25 and reservations can be made by calling Roy Vehling at CH. 4-4560. Reservations can be made at the church office after each service next Sunday morning. Change of Date on Westwood Rumage Sale The date has been changed for the Rummage Sale to be held at Westwood Country Club. It will now be held on FRIDAY, MARCH 12 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Originally it had been scheduled for Saturday, March 13. Club members are again urged to collect Items that can be sold at this event. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER Church women of the various community churches have planned and will participate in the 1965 WORLD DAY of PRAYER, to be held at Meadowdale Methodist Church, 5701 West 34th St., Friday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Griener will give the message. There will be a complete Youth Program, also. Nursery facilities will be available. Mrs. Richard Kegg, of the St. Andrews Lutheran Church, serves as chairman and Mrs. Richard Stanton, of the Speedway Methodist Church, serving as director of the youth program. This is a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to worship, in unity of prayer, with others around the world. Offerings made are for the united outreach of the Church through interdenominational cooperation in the missions division of the National Council of Churches. GIRL SCOUT NEWS In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Girl Scout Troop No. 1080 had a Father-Daughter Banquet at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church Monday, February 15. After dinner the girls presented a small program of entertainment for their fathers ending with the singing of “Goodnight Gentleman.” Those attending with their fathers were: Peggy Byrd, Cindy Blankenship, Sherry Frey, Jan Fullenwider, Suzette and Lynette Hoffman, Ann Mermerding, Molly Higbie, Cheryl Mantooth, Linda McKeehan, Jane Quinn, Nancy Sewell, Sandra Wacker, Linda Mayhew and Lexie Martinez.
