Ketron, Ray L. Oeth. Esley Tabler, W. M, Francis. Mr. Leonard Czenkusch and Mr. Willard Russert of the Zoning Board of Appeals also attended this hearing Bouse Bill No. 1538 is designed to take away our local Board of Zoning Appeals. Bids were received on purchase of a utility tractor for the Sanitation Department. All bids were turned over to Mr. Cal Morgan, Superintendent of the Sanitation Department for study and recommendation to the Board at the next regular meeting.
The Board approved final payment to Chicago Bridge and Iron Company for the Water Storage Tank at the new Water Treatment Plant in the amount of $5,762.50. Mr. W. M. Francis and Mr. Lou Jackson made a report to the Board on the results of the recent smoke test of sewers in Farley Addition. There are a number of corrections which will have to be made. The Board approved redemption of $50,000.00 of Sewage Works Bonds. Mr. Max Williams, Waterworks Superintendent was given permission to have Wen No. 6 cleaned. The next regular meeting of the Board of Town Trustees for the Civil Town of Speedway win he held on March Bth at 7:30 pan. in the Town Han auditorium. PERSONALS Richard A Nester, Speedway senior at Ban State University, was promoted to Cadet Fnl—al in Air Force ROTC. Sixty-two Ban State cadets in all were listed, including Arnold Air Society pledge class, Marching Matadors, Honor Guard, and 46 promotions. Nester is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Ferguson, IMS Efcwnbower, Speedway. Army ROTC cadet Ist LL Stephen D. Livingston. received flight wings after completing toe Purdue flight program for cadets. Livingston, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack A. Livingston, 5112 West 12th St., Speedway, completed 36% hours of flight instruction includnig 16% hours solo flight He also had 35 hours of ground school training in the program which enables cadets to Qualify for private pilot’s licensed Livingston, who lives at 7-5 Ross Ade . Dr.. is married, a senior in agronomy and expects to be commissioned upon graduation in June. Due to an error, Gary Bell was listed as a pledge of Phi Kappa Psi. Gary has been formally initiated to the fraternity and has received his pin.
PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS* MEETING Future teachers from colleges, high schools and elementary junior high schools of Metropolitan Indianapolis and its surrounding territory, will hear State Superintendent of Public Instruction William Wilson and his wife speak at the Delta Kappa Gamma Society’s annual teacher recruitment tea, March 4, from 3:00 pan. until 5:00 p.m., in the L S. T. A. Auditorium.
INDIANAPOUS SYMPHONY An all-Russian program has been selected by Indianapolis Symphony audiences for the final program of the year by Izler Solomon and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. It will he played April 18 and 11 at the 14th pair of the season’s subscription concerts at Clowes Hall Audiences voted by ballot in December for the selections they wanted played in this All-Request Program. The winning numbers, as announced by conductor Izler Solomon, are the Russian Easter Overture by Rimsky-Korsakov; Picture* at an Fvhihhtot by Moussorgsky-Ravel; and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony Na 5.
SPEECH AND THEATER INSTITUTE High school students from Marion County with a special interest in debate, public speaking, literary interpretation, and drama may have a chance to display and expand their special talents this summer at Indiana University’s seventh annual Indiana High School Speech and Theatre Institutee July 18-31. Sponsored by the LU. Departmentof Speech and Theatre, the two-week program is open to a select number of high school students. Approximately 65 teenagers attended last summer’s session. Students eligible are those who will be high school seniors in September, 1965, and who are recommended by either their speech and theatre instructor or high school principal. Deadline for application is May 1. The Institute is divided into three sections: the discussion and debate program, the public speaking and interpretation portion, and the theatre and drama program. LU. faculty members and visiting high school teachers serve as Institute staff. In the discussion and debate section of the program, special emphasis will be placed on development of skills through classroom work, research, laboratory work, individual instruction, and televised debate. Special attention will be given to the 1965-66 high school debate and discussion questions. The public speaking and interpretation portion will emphasize the understanding of poetry, humorous and dramatic prose. Public performances will be given at the conclusion of the Institute. In the theatre and drama section, a do-it-yourself” approach will be used with students working in acting, make-up, costuming, lighting, and stagecraft On the final two nights, they will put their efforts together for a special public performance of several plays. Also planned are side trips to I.U.’s Brown County Playhouse at Nashville, and special public lectures and concerts. Application may be made to Robert C. Jeffrey, director, Indiana Speech and Theatre High School Institute, Department of Speech and Thearte, Indiana University.
