TRAFFIC SAFETY MEASURES ENDORSED Three major traffic safety measures were endorsed for support by the Indiana Farm Safety Council, Inc. at its first quarterly meeting at Purdue University recently. Measures endorsed for support were: periodic motor vehicle inspection, adequate funds for state safety agencies, and improved marking of slow moving vehicles. Another matter discussed was the need for adjustment of the minimum age for issuing drivers licenses. The council endorsed, in principle, the need for raising the lower limits for issuing driver licenses including the driver training permit and a proposal to classify all drivers licenses issued

to persons under twenty-one years of age as probationary. The Farm Safety Council has also had under study the need for better identification of slow moving equipment. A triangular reflectorized emblem, developed from research in Ohio, is meeting with wid® acceptance throughout the middle west. Studies indicate that this red and orange emblem, mounted on the rear of slow moving equipment, is much more readily observed than presently required equipment, including the red flag and tail-light Council membership voted to seek legistlative sanction to authorize the State Director of Traffic Safety to designate devices to identify slow moving equipment used on public highways. This would permit further testing of the new emblem.
