Findland and Lapland (Continued from Page 1) Look and This Week. Mr. Reed is considered to be one of the -world’s foremost authorities on Finland and Lapland—Artie Finland and Arctic Norway. Besides lecturing in the United States, he lectures on Finnish radio and television about travel and tourism within Finland and the Scandinavian countries, Mr. Reed writes for Finnish newspapers. Besides being an authority on the Scandinavian countries, Mr. Reed is also a specialist on Alaska and the American Arctic and the Southwestern desertlands. “Finland and Lapland” is an authentic film-lecture of a great nation and its charming people. It presents Finland and its Arctic region—Lapland in mid-winter as well as in summer. It is an account of the history, agriculture, industry and architecture of this northern country. Helsinki, the great “White City of the North,” the Capital of Finland, is highlighted with a torn- through the shops and colorful market places, luncheon at the unforgettable Restaurant Kestikartano and a visit with Finland’s leading television star. Ancient, historic Turku, with its great cathedrals and castles, Tampere, the world’s most beautiful industrial city, and Lahti, the most-American-like city in Finland, are among the many citites of Finland that are visited in the film. The slim also includes the vast Saimaa Lake Region beside the Finnish-Russian Frontier. Spectacular footage of an authentic round-up of more than 3,500 reindeers by the Lapps is included, in addition to the scenic panoramas of the Lapland —the land of the midnight sun. The School Board will soon receive final plans for the junior high school cafeteria. As soon as they are studied and approved, bids will be taken. The cafeteria will be located at the west end of the junior high building. Present plans are to start construction this spring in order to have the cafeteria ready for the beginning of school in September. In varsity basketball Speedway defeated Brebeuf 84-38 in its first game in the Marion County Tourney and went on to win over North Central 66-65 in the semifinal game played last week. In other varsity games the past weekend the Sparkplugs defeated Zionsville 76-62 and Danville 6355. Speedway Reserve team split their two scheduled games by losing to Zionsville 30-25 and winning over Danville 46-45. Speedway lost the championship game in the Mid-State Freshman Tourney by only 1 point to Plainfield 28-27. They earned the right to play in the final game by defeating Danville 27-24 in an overtime and then winning over Greenwood by a 44-33 score. Speedway swim team won a dual met with West Lafayette by a 56-39 score, and then defeated Franklin 58-37 in another meet. The Eastwood freshman wrestling squad defeated Speedway 28-23 in a meet held last week. LIBRARY NOTES: The Senior High School Library is open four late afternoons each week for the convenience of students and adults of Speedway. Hours are from 4:00 to 6:30 Monday through Thursday.
