November 20, 21: Senior Class Play, "The Crucibles.” November 21: Swim meet with Lawrence Central, here, 1:00 pan. Inquiries have been received concerning vacation periods during the school year. School will be out October 22-23 for State Teachers Association. There will be no school on Wednesday, November 11, for Veteran’s Day. Our band will participate in the Veteran’s Day Parade on that date. Thanksgiving Vacation will be November 26-27. The last day of school before Christmas Vacation will be December 23, and pupils will return to class on Monday morning, January 4. Spring Vacation will be the week of April 11.
The 1964 Speedette of Speedway High School was awarded second place for offset yearbooks among Indiana schools of 601-900 enrollment in the national yearbook contest of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Miss Lois Metzger is faculty advisor for the Speedette. Helen Bledsoe, Sue Johnson, and Rita Veal received first division placement in the district twirling contest held at Southport last Saturday. Speedway won the Mid-State Cross Country championship with a score of 37 while 1963 champ Decatur Central finished second with 54, followed by Mooresville, 97; Brownsburg, 111; Center Grove, 126; Greenwood, 128; Danville, 149, and host Plainfield, 176. Sophomore Charles Engel tied the two-mile record with a time of 10:15 and placed first in individual scoring. Other team members who placed were Chuck Williams, third; Herb Crawford, sixth; Earl Woodard, twelfth; Bob Smith, fifteenth; Mike Alma, twentieth; John Heidenreich, twenty-sixth. Earlier in the week Speedway placed sixth in the Marion County Cross Country Meet in which twelve teams participated. In football the past week, the Sparkplugs defeated the Beech Grove Hornets 25-6. Other football scores were: Speedway Reserve 12, Plainfield 0.; Fulton Freshmen 14, Speedway 0; Speedway Bth grade 6, Fulton 6; Speedway 7th grade 28, Ind. Deaf School 0; Ind. Deaf School 47, Speedway Bth grade T.

North Delaware. Guest speaker will be Dr. I. Lynd Esch, President of Indiana Central College, who has chosen “Culture Contrasts” as his subject. The international theme will be carried out in the table decorations.
