BOY SCOUTS HELP GOODWILL Some 10,000 Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Explorers will distribute Indianapolis Goodwill Industries bags next Saturday (October 10) to homes in the area in a campaign to reach Goodwill’s goal of 375,000 filled bags this year. The boys representing 400 scouting units will pick up the filled bags at homes on Saturday, Oct. 24. They will be trucked to Goodwill’s plant at 1635 W. Michigan St. The repairable clothing and small household articles are the materials handicapped workers use for job training in their rehabilitation at Goodwill Residents have been asked to place their filled Scout “Good Turn” Goodwill bags on their front porches by 9 am. on Oct. 24. The Scout drive embraces Marion, Hancock and Hendricks counties.

Helen Bledsoe, Barbara Curry, Phillip Hoose, and Sherri Raquet have received Letters of Commendation for their high scores. The semifinalists and commended students together constitute about two per cent of all high school seniors. Junior high school pupils elected 7th and Bth grade officers as follows:

In football games played last week the Speedway varsity defeated Greenwood. 28-6, while Speedway’s freshman and Bth grade teams won over Brownsburg teams by scores of 13-6 and 13-0, respectively. Speedway’s varsity cross country squad won a dual meet with Greenwood, 16-47, and both varsity and reserve squads placed first in meets with Franklin Central and Pike. Varsity scores were Speedway 20, Franklin Central 56, Pike 57. Reserve scores were Speedway 21, Franklin Central 48, Pike 48. Library Hotees The Senior High School Library is open four late afternoons each week for the convenience of students and adults of Speedway. Hours are from 4:00 to 6:30 Monday through Thursday.

PRESCHOOL EDUCATION WORKSHOP McCormick’s Creek State Park will be the setting when members and friends of the Indiana Association for Preschool Education gather for their Fall Workshop, October 17, to investigate the theme, “Helping Children Discover Music and Nature.” Mr. Herbert Sweet, owner of Acorn Farm Camp, Indianapolis, will highlight the conference for teachers, parents and administrators with his talk, “The Wooden Whistle That Wouldn’t Whistle,” and he will lead demonstrations on the use of nature in nursery school, day care and kindergarten programs. Dr. Eleanor Robinson, Child Development Department, Purdue University, Lafayette, will conduct workshops on the use of the autoharp and other small musical instruments. “Folk Songs for Young Children” will be presented by Dr. Harvey Narrol, Clinical Psychologist, Institute of Psychiatric Research, Indiana University, Indianapolis. Mrs. Ronald Beam, 5518 Marilyn Road, Indianapolis, is in charge of registration and luncheon reservations. Mrs. J. Q. Bellard is program chairman.
