In order to participate in the race the entrant must qualify for the race on Saturday, June 20, 1964. If weather conditions are unsuitable for time trials on this date, other dates may be selected at the discretion of the Speedway Jaycees. 5. Only the 33 fastest qualifiers' will be eligible to participate in the race. 6. Each bicycle is subject to inspection by the safety committee, and the safety committee reserves the right to disqualify any team whose bicycle is found to be in an unsafe condition. Specifications: 1. The bicycle frame must be a standard 24-inch or 26-inch frame. No lightweight “racing bicycles” are eligible. 2. Tire size is restricted to tires 26x2.125, 26x1.75, 24x1.75 and 24x2.125. 3. Fenders and accessories (lights, horns, etc.) may be removed from the bicycle. 4. Any desired gear ratio may be used. 5. Each bicycle must be equipped with adequate coaster brakes, pedals and steering. 6. Each bicycle must adequately display the number assigned to it. Numbers shall be assigned and must be affixed to the right rear of the bicycle frame. 7. All bicycles must have handle bar grips. General Rules and Information 1. Each team shall consist of two riders (a starting rider and a relief rider) and one mechanic ONLY! 2. The qualification date is June 20, 1964. The race date is June 27, 1964. The race is to be held in the Speedway Shopping Center Parking Lot. 3. The rider who is going to start the race must qualify the bicycle. 4. The fiag signals are as follows: Green—The race is started clear course ahead. Red—Stop—the race is halted. Checkered —the race is finished. Yellow—Slow—use caution and hold your position. Black Stop for consultation with officials. White You are on the final lap. Any disregard of these flag signals can result in disqualification. 6. When pit stops are made in order to change riders or make repairs, the bicycle must come to a full stop for at least ten seconds in front of the team’s pit board before continuing in the race. Any infraction of this rule will result in a one lap penalty. Infractions will be determined by the official starter and the head of the scoring committee. 7. Any liquid which is passed from the pit crew to a rider on a moving bicycle must be in paper or soft plastic cups in order to reduce the danger of tire puncture and personal injury. Any infraction of this rule will result in a three lap penalty. 8. A rider may not race any bicycle except the one qualified. 9. FISH FRY The Men’s Club of Wesley Methodist Church is having a Fish Fry, Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13. The fish fry will be held in the parking lot south of the church at 30th and Tibbs. Meridian, June 16, at 8:15 p.m. The Concert which was recently presented as a part of the annual Children’s Choir Festival, sponsored by Christian Theological Seminary, will be one of the opening events of the Choristers Guild Seminar being held at Indiana Central College, June 1519.
