JUNIOR GOLFERS Don Essig to Conduct Jaycee Junior Golf Clinic NOTICE: The Jaycee Jr. Golf Clinic has been moved up from Saturday, June 20, io Friday, June IS at 6 pan. All young men who have entered or plan to enter the Speedway Jaycee Junior Golf Tournament at South Grove Golf Club are to be at the Speedway Park Friday evening, June 19 at 6 pm. to get your tee time. Entries will be received here. Don Essig, head professional at the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, and former National Public Linx champion, as well as former winner of the State Junior, and City Amateur twice, will be cm hand to conduct the clinic. This is the time to be up close to see how the pros do it. The Junior Golf Tournament is open to all participants who will not be 18 years old before Aug. 15, 1964. There will be trophies for the four best open entries as well as a trip to South Bend for the State Jaycee Junior to be played on July 16 thru 18. These four open winners will comprise the Speedway team. There will also be a trophy for the best Novice Round, and a trophy for the best handicap round. (Handicap to be by the Calloway System). The local tournament at South Grove will be played Monday and Tuesday, June 22 and 23. Entry fee is $2.00 which includes 36 holes of golf (18 each day) as well as a Victory Banquet Picnic at Speedway Park (15th St.) sponsored by the Speedway Jaycee Jaynes. BATON RECITAL “A World of Twirling” will be the theme presented June 13th, 6:30 PM., at 5437 Meadowood Dr. The following students will participate under the instruction of Mrs. Jeannea Resener. _ First year twirlers include: Rene Breedon, Joni Brown, Kathi Brown, Lisa Craig, Mary Agnes Haig, Patty Huffman, Susie Huffman, Julie Laue, Barbara Lewis, Sue Quebbeman, Christy Saxton, Annette Sommers, Lori Scott and Jane Weatherford. Bowman-Bullington Karen Sue Bowman and John Wayne Bullington are planning to be married August 8. Mr. and Mrs. Oral D. Bowman, 1125 Hamilton St, are announcing the engagement and wedding plans of their daughter and the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Bullington of Speedway. Miss Bowman was graduated from William A. Wirt High School and is employed by Krogers. The prospective bridegroom was graduated from Speedway High School and is serving with the 6th U.S. Army Corps Area Supply Office in Gary, Iqd. E. A. Welty Rites for E. A. Welty, 81, 305 N. Bancroft, were at 1 pjn. Friday at Conkle Funeral Home. He died Tuesday in Methodist Hospital. In 1948 Welty retired from Allison, where he had been employed 10 years. He was first secretary of Speedway Masonic Lodge and a member of Speedway Christian Church. He was a former Speedway resident. Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Devore, and a son, Basil Welty.

GIRLS 12-16 YEARS The annual Speedway Jaycee Junior “500” bicycle race, June 27th, will include a Queen Contest. The Queen will be chosen by the race participants and be awarded and crowned following the race at the Race Banquet. Any girl between 12 and 16 years of age who is interested should contact Janet Irwin, CH. 4-9696, or any Jaycee Jane before June 20th. TWIRLERS NEEDED The Speedway High School Band is in need each year of twirlers to replace those who graduate. Approved private lessons and summer classes for girls in grades 1 through 8 are now being organized by Helen Bledsoe. Helen is a registered teacher with the United States Twirling Association. She has won numerous awards for her twirling, including the Indiana State Championship; and she is featured twirler with the S.H.S. Band. See ad in classified section for further information.

University of Illinois students J*nes Bonner of Urbana, HL and Greg Bloomberg of Rock Island, IlLr’are painting house numbers on Speedway's curbs to pay their way through college. Having obtained the City Council's approval. the two youths will start painting in Speedway next week. They expect to be painting for the next two and a half months. Although the work is done without charge, the students place their cards in doors of residences in the hope tennants will reimburse them for their painting services.
Alpha Delta Omega Convention
“Happy Holidays” will be convention theme when members of the Alpha Delta Omega National Sorority assemble on Saturday, June 13, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Motel. Mrs. Fred Smell, Fort Wayne, National President, will preside over the opening business session with delegates present from all twenty chapters of Indiana and Ohio. Members of Chi Chapter of Indianapolis will be hostesses for the Saturday evening program, which will feature a style show and an outstanding program of song by Delco Remy Guide Lamps Barber Shop Chorus of Anderson. Chapel service will be held Sunday morning, June 14, prior to the business session at which time National officers will be elected for the coming year. In addition to Mrs. Smell, present National officers are Mrs. Ben Lacey, Richmond, first vice-presi-dent; Mrs. Robert Simmons, Union City, second vice-president; Mrs. James Reed, Fort Wayne, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Ted Rosebrock, Speedway, recording secretary and general chairman for the convention; Mrs. Raymond Grothause, Celina, Ohio, treasurer; Mrs. Robert Hotz, Delphos, Ohio, historian; and Mrs. Robert D. Anderson, Anderson, editor. “Let Your Light So Shine,” Matt: 5:16, will create the atmosphere for the 1:00 o’clock dinner Sunday afternoon of which the members of Epsilon Chapter of Speedway will be hostesses. The tables will be graciously decorated with circular garlands of large yellow roses from the center of which will rise stately lighted candles. The dinner speaker will be Esther Kem Thomas of Lebanon, Indiana, who will present
a program of original prose and poetry. The remaining highlights of the convention will be the installation of Omicron Chapter of which Mrs. Cecil Marcom of Fort Wayne Theta Chapter is sponsor. Mrs. Lincoln Northcott, of Epsilon Chapter, Chairman of the National Philanthropic Committee, will introduce the three recipients of the scholarship grants for advanced training in teaching of retarded children. The teachers chosen to receive the awards are Mr. Robert Roth of Mansfield, Ohio; Mr. Marvin Eugene Porter of Hammond, Indiana; and Mrs. Katherine Roberta Thompson of Dayton, Ohio. Speedway Masons To Celebrate 25th Year Speedway Masonic Lodge No. 729, F. & A.M., will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a dinner and dance to be held at the North Park Masonic Temple Saturday, June 13. GIRL SCOUT NEWS Brownie Troop 1431, under the leadership of Mrs. Byron Stanbrough and Mrs. Raymond Miller, had their Fly-Up on June 4 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. The following girls received their Brownie Wings and Girl Scout pins and became Junior Girl Scouts: Debra Burrowes, Ruth Deatherage, Therese DeWeese, Nancy Huliba, Renne Kinder, Julia Kinney, Pam Miller, Jane Preda, Janet Roberts, Beth Ann Robertson, Lori Scott, Patrice Smith, Sandy Sorrell, Laura Sunkel and Dena Wilcox. For their service project the troop made cartoon scrap books which their leaders took to General Hospital on June 2. Thanks again to all the mothers for their help and cooperation throughout the past two years. Also thanks to the three Junior Scouts, Debbie Robertson, Debbie Meyer and Debbie Scott who helped us at Fly-Up.
PLAYGROUND NEWS There is a correction in the closing dates of the park. The park supervision will run until July 31 instead of the 29th as previously announced. Schedules for Peanut League will be drawn up as soon as the number es beys at each iwk can be determined. These schedules will be published in the Flyer and individual schedules will be given to be boys. Because of the small number of boys at 22nd St. diamond, these boys will be asked to go to Main or Meadowood Parks. Our Junior High basketball program is underway and teams will be formed on Monday, June 15. This program is for boys who will be in grades 7, 8 or 9. This program is taking place on the new high school’s basketball courts. In the interest of safety, we will continue to insist that bicycles be parked in the racks and that cars be kept off the park grounds. ■ Watch this paper for a schedule of park activities for the summer next week.
SI.OO POLIO CLINIC The SI.OO Polio Clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, and July 14, from 7 pm. to 9 pm. at school No. 16, 1402 West Market Street (just off White River Parkway). This clinic is available to all persons, adults and children. It is important for all persons to receive the initial series of three shots and boosters throughout life. This clinic provides an opportunity for the entire family to keep up to date on their polio immunization.
