TOWN BOARD SAYS THIS By Dick Canada The Indiana Flood Control and Water Resources Commission advised that certain work be done to divert Dry Run Ditch to prevent flooding of homes below 25th Street and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway grounds. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway agreed to dedicate two bridges and furnish perpetual maintenance on these Dry Run diversionary bridges as soon as the bridges are completed. Mr. Joseph Cloutier and Mr. Clarence Cagle, representatives from the track, asked the Town’s support in diverting the creek flowing North of 25th Street. Estimates concerning the diversion of Dry Run and Meyers Ditch were briefly discussed and the track consented to appropriating $74,000 for the improvement. The Town is to buy the right-of-way and the flood board to do the excavating. A citizen of Schoolwood Drive pointed out that waste paper from Frisch’s Drive-In was causing a nuisance to home owners in that area by blowing onto private property. The Board agreed to send a letter to the store manager requesting the problem to he alleviated and if the problem is not alleviated, an ordinance is to he drafted which will include a monetary penalty. A request by the Mr. Softie Company to sell ice cream from a circulating truck with a sound device was rejected by the Board. In the past citizens had complained that the truck’s bell woke up sleeping children and created a nuisance. The Board will check the possibility of two Red Cabs being stationed on Main Street to accommodate Speedway citizens, the Holiday Inn, and Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge patrons. Mr. James Hittle, Lion Club member, asked if tie Lion’s Club could sponsor a public library open to all Speedway residents. The Board will meet with representatives from Speedway’s Police aid Fire Department to discuss the Town’s pension plan. Water Works Superintendent, Max Williams, is to draft specifications for a new water works truck which he requested the Board to purchase. The sum of $61,834.50 was agreed to be paid to Tousley Construction Company as the second payment on the Town’s new water treatment plant. The signs along Lyndhurst Drive from “Winton Avenue South to 21st Street will be changed from “No Parking” to “No Stopping or Standing.” This change will be in effect until the improvement of Lyndhurst Drive is completed sometime in August.
