Starting at 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 pan. hydrants will be flushed on Lyndhurst Drive, Winton Avenue, Gerrard Street, Fisher Avenue, Allison Street and Shaw Avenue between Twenty-second Street and Twenty-fifth Street, Twenty-sec-ond and McCray Street and Auburn to Twenty-fifth Street. SPEEDWAY WATER WORKS Max Williams, Superintendent FREE CHEST X-RAY DAY IN SPEEDWAY Next week’s Chest X-ray schedule arranged by the Marion County Tuberculosis Association in cooperation with State and Local Health Departments will be in Speedway, Thursday, April 16, at St. Andrews Church, 5700 Crawfordsville Road, (Speedway Shopping Center), from 4:30-9:30 pm. These X-rays are free of charge. All adults, 18 years and older, are urged to take advantage of this important health service.
PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION CONFERENCE ‘Tersonality Growth Through Creativity and Structured Environment” will be the theme of the fourth annual conference of the Indianapolis Association for Preschool Education to be held Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Wesley Methodist Church, 3425 West 30th Street, Indianapolis. Johxrß. Sneyd John R. Sneyd has been appointed to the newly created post of Credit Department Manager of First Bank and Trust Company, 5300 Crawfordsville Road. Mr. Sneyd is a graduate of Indiana State College and was formerly a National Bank Examiner. He is a member of St. Simon the Apostle Church and the Knights of Columbus. He lives with his wife and two daughters at 7925 Placing Streeet. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Don Hammer have returned to their home in Wisconsin after spending the Easter Holidays in Speedway. Kathy Bradley, 5735 Elaine, is pledge vice president of Alpha Xi Delta at I. U. and Bob Lowe, 6129 Schoolwood, has been initiated by Acacia. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Todd, 1808 Norfolk St., exchanged “Happy Easter” greetings via telephone with their son, Dick and daughter, Sue. Dick was visiting Sue in Hollywood, Florida. He is stationed at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla. Sue is teaching in the McArthur High School in West Hollywood, Fla. Sue had just returned from spending spring vacation in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. On Sunday they were invited to eat Easter dinner with their aunt, Mrs. Morton Brann and Mr. Brann. Also present were their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sewell and another aunt and her family from Speedway, Mr. and Mrs. Ed West and family. Mimi Ann Stout, spent Spring vacation with her mother, Mrs. Shirley Stout, 1652 Christopher Lane. She returned by plane Sunday to Christian College, Columbia, Missouri. Style Siow i ( “Artistry in Color” will be the theme of the annual Spring 1 Style Show to be sponsored by the WSCS of Speedway Methodist Church on Friday evening, April 10, 1964 at 7:30 p.m. Fashions to be modelled will be from Dorothy’s in the “500” Shopping Center. Hairstyles will be by “Beauty By Bryant” located in the Speedway Shopping Center. A setting of an Italian line of, furniture will be furnished by the Trend House, 1502 Main Street. A Baldwin organ will be furnished through the courtesy of the Baldwin Organ Division of the Riddick Piano Company, 1440 N. Meridian. Harold Leaman, our organist, is head of the Riddick teaching staff. GIRL SCOUT JAMBOREE The merchants of Speedway Shopping Center are proud to announce that the entire Girl Scout Organization of Speedway City will stage a big “jamboree” showing, “Girl Scouts in action” on April 18, 1964; from 11:00 am. to 4:00 p.m. This will cover all phases of “Girl Scouting” and will be an interest to young, old, and in-be-tween; both male and female. Plan to come and see for yourself the many and varied activities of these special young people. They range in age from seven to seventeen; from the smallest Brownie to the foremost Senior. Mr. Guthrie, the director, is a well known person in this area having been Interim Minister of Music at the Speedway Christian Church. The program consists of a musical variety including religious, spiritual, folk and musical comedy. Featured will be the Butler Ballet Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Martha Cornich. See modern or contemporary dancing in artistic form which stresses great skill and highly intensified expression. CHARLES TURNER Charles H. Turner, 5254 W. 14th, Speedway, a retired building contractor, died Saturday in a nursing home. He was 72. Born in Wapella, 111, he had lived in Indianapolis for 34 years. Mr. Turner was a member of Speedway Christian Church, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, the Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion. Services were last Monday in Conkle Speedway Funeral Home; entombment in Floral Park. Survivors: Wife, Nellie, and sisters, Mrs. Wayne Wakefield, Switz City; Mrs. Wayne A. Corbin, Linton, and Mrs. William W. Strong of California.
DIANNE TOWER TO TOUR WITH LU. SHOWBOAT Miss Dianne Tower, a student of the School of. Theater dan Drama at Indiana University, has been selected as a member of the cast of students that will tour the Ohio River aboard the I. U. Showboat Majestic for the summer. They will start the tour May 28th and will return August 30th. The cast will do 74 shows and play 32 towns from Cincinnati to Cairo, Illinois. Also included are TV and Radio appearances. Two plays, “Abies-Irish Rose” and “Arsenic and Old Lace,” plus a variety show is the program selected for the tour. Dianne has been cast as “Mrs. Cohen” in “Abies Irish Rose” and as “Aunt Abby” in Arsenic and Old Lace” and will also appear in the Variety Show. Dianne is a Speedway High School graduate and is now a junior at L U. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Tower. /

Because of the high registration by its members, the Speedway PTA is sponsoring a Health Fair to be held April 16 at St Andrews Lutheran Church, located by the Speedway Shopping Center. The Marion County Tuberculosis Association is sending a chest x-ray unit which will operate from 4:30 to 9 pm. The Marion County Heart Association will also be doing free blood typing at this time. (This is done on just a finger stick). These two services will be only for those 18 years or older. The Marion County Speech and Hearing Clinic will be giving free hearing screening .tests for all ages. They further agreed to do speech evaluation tests on preschool and school age children who might have speech problems. We would like to test these children from 1 pm. to 4:30 pm. before the adults. There will be someone from 1 pm. to 9 pm. to test all ages. We will expect those who signed the questionnaire to support the program by their attendance since it was their response which prompted the organizations cooperation. However the project is a community health project We hope that all who wish, will take advantage of the service offered.
