Books must be in good condition. Fiction for children and teenagers, reference books such as dictionaries and atlases, good standard school texts (no more than ten years old), and good quality paperbacks can all be donated. These books will be used by children in areas where school and community library facilities are limited. Starting at 8:00 am. until 5:00 pm. fire hydrants will be flushed in the general area south of the B & O Railroad to and including 10th Street From Norfolk west of Lyndhurst to Main Street. Saturday, March 21, 1964. Starting at 8:00 am. until 12:00 noon fire hydrants will be flushed on 10th Street from Winton Avenue east to the Auto Auction Property. Good Friday Services Set For Speedway Area Next to Good Friday, March 27, Christians of our area will be gathering in their churches to observe the most solemn day in the year by recalling the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Churches of the Speedway area have announced the following services: Speedway Christian Church, 14th and Winton, will have its annual service from 2-3 pm. Speedway Methodist Church, located at 5065 W. 16th St., will have a service from 2-3 pan. St. John’s Episcopal Church, 5625 West 30th St., will observe the death of Christ with a service from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. The churches of the Chapel Hill neighborhood have announced a Union Service to be held at the Chapel Hill Methodist Church, 963 N. Girls’ School Road at 7:30 p.m. Participating churches are Chapel Hill Methodist, Chapel Hill United Presbyterian, Church of the Master Baptist, Garden City. Christian, and Westwood Baptist. Chapel Hill Methodist Church will be open for meditation from 12-3 pm.
Another Union Service is to be held in the Westview Christian Church, West 34th St, from 1:00-2:00 pm. The service will be conducted by representatives from Westview Christian Church, Meadowdale Methodist Church, Speedway Baptist Church, and John Knox United Presbyterian Church. St. Gabriel’s Reman Catholic Church, 6000 West 34th Street, will have a solemn liturgical service from 2-3 pm. St. Christopher’s Roman Catholic Church, 5300 W. 16th Street, will announce the time of their services next week.
ATTENTION P.T.A. BOARD MEMBERS Due to the spring vacation the April Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 25th at the Carl G. Fisher School in the Audio Visual room at 9:00 am. GOVERNOR TO SPEAK AT MEN'S FELLOWSHIP DINNER i < JI ' a! -ft iF -0 Governor Welsh Indiana Governor Matthew E. Welsh will be the featured speaker at the Speedway Christian Church Men’s Fellowship dinner meeting on Monday, March 23, 1964. Governor Welsh is an Elder of the First Christian Church in his hometown, Vincennes, Indiana, and he has appeared before many church groups, including the International Convention of Christian Churches. He is a life member of the Disciples Historical Society. The Governor maintains an active interest in the affairs of his Church in spite of his heavy schedule of official commitments and responsibilities and the Men’s Fellowship audience is assured of an interesting and informative presentation. Fried Chicken will head, .the menu for dinner beginning at 6:30 pm. Tickets are on sale at the Church or may be obtained from Mr. Jim Simons CH. 3-0638.
TRAP SHOOT The Marion County Fish and Game Association (located on Highway 136 at Eagle Creek, one mile west of Speedway) will hold a Trap Shoot, March 24, from 6:00 pm. to 10:30 pm. SPEEDWAY LIONS TO HONOR "PLUGS" Robert Primmer The Speedway Lions win honor the Speedway High School’s basketball team with a banquet Wednesday, March 25 at the Speedway Christian Church, at 7:00 pan. The “Plugs” finished the season with a 12-10 record.
The principal speaker win be Mr. Robert Primmer, Administrator of Ball State’s eleven-sport athletic program. A native of Frankfort, Indiana, he came to Ball State in the fall of 1952 as head basketball coach. An illness forced Bob to give up active coaching after two years. He served for several years as the school’s coordinator of scholarship aids and student emloyment and succeeded Paul “BiUy” Williams as director of athletics in the faU of 1958. A graduate of Frankfort High School, he was a member of the state championship basketban team in 1929-30. He played basketball and ran track at Franklin College where he received his bachelors degree in 1934. He also holds a masters degree from Indiana University. Primmer was a successful high school coach at Dunkirk, South Bend Adams and South Bend Central before coming -to - Ball State. He served three years as an officer in the United States Navy Air Corps’ V-5 program during World War 11. . Primmer’s son, J<mn, is a graduate assistant at Ball State and her wife, LaVon, is the school nurse at Burris High School in Muncie. During the 1960-61 school year Bob was president of the Indiana College Coaches Association.

St Andrew’s Choir Presents Cantata The Senior Choir of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 5700 Crawfordsville Road, is presenting a contemporary Lenten Cantata by Everett Titcomb this Sunday morning at both the 9 and 11 am. services. The Contata relates the events of Holy Week from Palm Sunday through Good Friday. Gene Forry will be narrator, and Mrs. John Farley directs the choir. In connection with this special music, St. Andrew’s has designated this Sunday as “Guest Sunday.” Members and friends of the congregation are inviting their friends and neighbors of the community to come to worship with them on this occasion. Baptist Choir To Present Cantata The Choir of the Speedway Baptist Church, cordially invites the public to attend their presentation of an Easter cantata, No Greater Love, by John F. Peterson, Sunday evening, March 22, 1964, at 7:30 pm.
The cantata will be given under the direction of Mr. Richard Guthridge, Choir Director, accompanied by Mrs. Hollis Bulyar, organist, and Mrs. James Deuel, pianist, at the Speedway Baptist Church, 2986 Moller Road. SPEEDWAY HARDWARE MOVING TO LARGER QUARTERS The Speedway Hardware which has been located at 16th and Lyndhurst for several years is in the process of moving to larger quarters. They are combining the Hardware Store with the Speedway Lawn and Garden Store at 5242 Crawfordsville Road. This location as been greatly enlarged to accommodate both stores. This combining of stores to one location should make it much more convenient for the customer. We hope you will pardon any inconvenience until this move is complete.
