“Speedway Choral Festival Concert” The choirs of Speedway High School will fill the new auditorium with music next Wednesday evening, December 4th, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Appearing on the program will be the SparkleAires, Modem-Aires, Choral-Aires and other featured soloists from these groups. “Doll” Deadline Friday, Nov. 29 First Bank and Trust Company wants to remind the many folks in this area who have responded so generously in the “Dress a Doll” Contest, that the deadline for return of the dressed dolls, is this Friday, November 29. The contest, sponsored by First Bank and Trust, will provide Christmas dolls for needy children. The dressed dolls are to be judged December 2, at First Bank and Trust, 5300 Crafordsville Road and at First Bank and Trust’s Beech Grove office on December 3. The dolls will then be on display at both locations. PERSONALS The usual austerity of barracks life at the Virginia Military Institute will be interrupted this Thanksgiving weekend by a whirlwind of activities climaxed by the traditional Ring Figure dance on Friday night when cadet second classmen (juniors) receive their class rings. Among the cadets participating in the ring ceremony this year will be Cadet Robert Lynn McMahon, of 1033 Rosner Drive, Speedway, Indiana. Cadet McMahon will be escorting Miss Jayne Thompson, of 1714 Ellen Drive, Speedway. Adelia Chapt. I.T.S.C. Christmas Party will be held at 6:30 p.m. December 2nd. Christmas Trees Christmas Trees will go on sale Saturday, November 30th at the Speedway Lions Club lot. Remember the new location —U. S. 136, just west of Georgetown Rd. It is suggested that you make your selection early while many shapes and sizes are available. You can place your tree in a container of water or wet sand which will keep it fresh and green until you are ready to trim it. Your support of this and the several other fund raising activities operated by the Club provides the funds that enables it to sponsor the Basketball and Football banquets honoring our young high school athletes, the annual Halloween party, to contribute to the Leader Dog Fund for aid to the blind, to the Cancer Control Fund, to the Little League Baseball and Football activities and many more that Eure not so widely publicized. Westside Group To Present “Messiah” Handel’s “The Messiah” will be presented by the Westside Chorus Sunday, December 1, at 7:30 pan. in the new John L. Lacey n Speedway High School auditorium, Lyndhurst Drive and 25th Street. Under the direction of Mr. Farrell M. Scott, Associate Professor of Music at Indiana Central College, and sponsored by the Speedway Musicale, this will be the sixth annual presentation of this fine concert. Mrs. Helen Hecht will be the organist with the Riddick Piano Company furnishing the organ. The public is cordially invited to attend. Soloists selected for this performance are: Mrs. Robert Garrett, Joan Richey, Patricia Jessup and Mrs. Thomas Kiritsis, Sopranos; Mrs. Nathan Wooden and Miss Jane Ann Graham, altos; Larry Blossom and Robert Foltz, tenors, and Hanford Lloyd and Ben Woodward, basses. The Messiah Committee of the Musicale is composed of Mrs. Dale Quebbeman and Mrs. Rex Leonard, co-chairmen, with the Mesdames Robert Rudness, Don North, Joe Ritter and Jewell Ashby assisting. Northwest Playschool The Northwest Cooperative playschool, a non-profit, non-de-nominational nursery school, has 2 openings for four years olds. C. E. Lyons C. E. (Red) Lyons, owner of Lyons Department Stores in Speedway, Zionsville and Plainfield, died Friday in Mctho&irt; Hospital. He was 81 and lived at 7300 W. 34th. Mr. Lyons was a native of Summitville and lived hoe most of his life. He was a member of Speedway Christian Church and vice-president of the Speedway Savings & Loan Co. He also was a past president of the Speedway Merchants Association. “Red” was a Speedway booster and was one of the business men most interested in creating the Christmas spirit in Speedway by decorating the business district. Services were Monday, 11 a.m., Conkle Funeral Home, Speedway; burial, Crown Hill. Survivors: wife, Lucille; daughters, Mrs. Jo Ann Hamilton, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Patricia Sutliff, Stilesville, and his mother, Mrs. Edna Lyons, Speedway. CHURCHES TO FU GOODWILL BAGS Churches in the area will begin next Sunday their “Goodwill Industries Day” campaign for collection of Goodwill bags tilled with discarded clothing and household items. Empty Goodwill bags will be distributed to congregations next Sunday (Dec. 1) at church services. Recipients will be asked to fill the bags during the week and bring them to church on Sunday, December 8.
