SPEEDWAY FLYER f ■ - Issued Every Week to Every Home in Speedway, Westgate Addition and Clermont
Town Board Says This! By Dick Canada The Board reviewed the status of annexation of land from Georgetown' Realty, Crawfordsville Farms, and Standard Materials Corporation. Approximately 600 acres are expected to come into Speedway when details are worked out. Agreements with the Marion County Flood Control Board on the sale of about 120 acres of land North of 38th Street at County Line Road were reviewed. The portion of the farm to be sold is that ground below 815’ elevation which will be inundated when the new reservoir and dam are built. Section II in the flood control plan on Eagle Creek from South of Washington Street to Wall Street Pike has been designed and approved by the State. Twenty out of more than one hundred-and-twenty parcels of land must yet be covered by option before construction of this section starts. Max Williams, Water Superintendent, was requested to contact the members of American Water Works Association for a new basic agreement on consumers main deposits. Town attorney, Henry Ryder, asked the Farley Addition builder if he transferred with title of the addition’s sewers, the right of Speedway and others to hookup cost free. The answer to this question was not resolved at this meeting and will be on a later agenda. Guidelines will be painted on the Dry Run Creek and Georgetown Road bridges.
Parking on Main Street was requested to be changed from 1% hours to % hours but was rejected by the Board; however, the Board ruled that 1% hour parking would be enforced. Complaints indicate that individuals are violating the intent of the time limit by moving a few inches or into adjacent spaces and staying all day. The Board adopted a Pension Plan for town employees which is to begin January 1, 1964. American United Life Insurance was selected for the coverage. This will supplement social security and employees who agree to participate will contribute 1%% of their base pay. Street Superintendent Lou Jackson, asked the Board’s permission to purchase a Rodding Machine (to clean sewers) estimated to cost $12,000. The Board asked Mr. Jackson to secure bids for the town concerning the Rodder. Card of Thanks To our kind friends, neighbors and relatives, we wish to express our sincere appreciation for sympathetic attention, beautiful floral tributes and other courtesies extended during the illness and at the passing of Adolph C. Moser, our beloved husband and father. We are most appreciative and wish to thank Rev. Montgomery for his consoling message and the Conkle Funeral Home for their kind services rendered. Outstanding Brama First Production In New Auditorium This Friday and Saturday night Speedway patrons of the drama will be presented with one of the most outstanding plays written in the past twenty years. Jerome' Lawrence and Robert E. Lee’s Inherit the Wind has received praise and plaudits from every nation in which it has played. The play is a social drama of overpowering emotion and importance. Its message will be as universal one hundred years from now as today, dealing with man’s “right to think.” Though not a comedy the play has lines throughout which give the audience a chance to enjoy themselves, and at the same time they carry a barb of social criticism. This play has been presented with great success in many high’ schools throughout the nation and after a very successful run on Broadway, it was made into a movie starring Spencer Tracy and Frederick March. The cast of this production, though mere high school students, brings amazing stature to the production. A full cast of 37 adds much color and background to this vibrant dramatization of the Scopes Trial of 1925. Reserved seats for the two performances of Inherit the Wind are on sale at the high school or may be purchased at the doohfor 75c. Curtain time is 8:00 pan.
