7 Attention ... Speedway Voters! Do you know how to vote and scratch your ballot if you wish to do so? The procedure is simple. If you are voting a straight ticket .do the following: 1. Enter the voting machine and close the curtain by pulling the handle which closes the curtain. 2. Pull the party lever of your choice on the face of the voting machine. This party lever is to your left as you face the machine. 3. Pull the curtain handle to open the curtain. As the curtain opens your vote is registered. - IF YOU WISH TO SCRATCH—do the following: 1 1. Enter the voting machine and close the curtain by pulling the handle which loses the curtain. 2. Pull the party lever of your choice. This lever is to your left as you face the machine. When you pull the party lever this in turn pulls down all the keys of the candidates of your party choice. 3. To Scratch—Push up the key of the candidates you do not wish to vote for and pull down the key of the candidates you wish to vote for—this is important. If you push up a key by all means pull the other key down. If you push up a key it does not automatically vote for the person opposite that name. You must pull down the key opposite the name in order to cast your vote for the opposite candidate. You cannot lose your vote. Scratching your ballot is an American custom. We are entitled to vote for persons of each party if we choose to do so. We should vote for those persons whom we think are the most qualified to hold the office they seek. , Sincerely, The Editor

ARTHUR GUMMERE CANDIDATE FOR TOWN TRUSTEE As a candidate for the Town Board of Trustees from Ward I of Speedway on the Citizens ticket, I would like to make it clear that my first and only interest as such is a town we can all be proud of. My hope, if elected, is to preserve the independence of our town and to have efficient police and fire departments to keep it a safe place to live. I would be in favor of civic improvements to the extent that they definitely appear needed and not place a tax burden on the citizens out of proportion to the benefits. Further, if a way can be found that is feasible to reduce our taxes, I certainly will work toward that goal. I have lived here at 5204 W. 15th Street for the past 35 years. I was an accounting department supervisor at Standard Oil when I retired a year ago after 38 years there. I have been an active member of Speedway Christian Church for many years and a charter member and Past Master of Speedway Masonic Lodge. I urge every qualified citizen of Speedway to vote in the election next Tuesday and vote for the candidates you think can serve the best interests of Speedway. S.
