SCHOOL NEWS In order to give all Speedway parents and citizens an early opportunity to view the new high school, an informal open house will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday night, September 4. Teachers will be stationed in the various classrooms, offices, and special areas to help direct the visitors. All rooms are designated by lettering above the doors and can be readily identified. A formal dedication program and open house will be held later during the first semester. At that time a printed brochure featuring building’s facilities will be available.
All Speedway Schools will open Tuesday, September 3. Pupils in grades 1-8 will report to their schools at 8:15. Enrollment times for Kindergarten are given below. High School students, grades 9-12, will report according to the schedule received in the mail. The system of book rental and paper fees used in Speedway Schools the past several years will be continued this year. Under this system all books, pencils, paper, and other necessary materials are furnished for children in grades Kindergarten through six. Books and paper are supplied in grades seven through twelve. In grades 1-8 an average of about twenty-five dollars’ worth of books, paper, and other materials are furnished each pupil during the school year. In High School pupils are charged one-fourth of the price of textbook and the full price of workbooks and other consumable materials.
Semester book and paper fees in grades K-8 will be the same as last year: Kindergarten, $1.00; Grades 1-6, $4.00; Grades 7-8, $4.50, except special cases noted in schedule sheets. The entire year’s fees, which are double the semester fees, may be paid at the beginning of the year. In fact, it is preferable, since practically all books are purchased at the beginning of the year. As mentioned above high school book fees will vary with the classes taken. (Continued on Page 4) THANK YOU! We would like to thank the Speedway Flyer and the many persons that donated lamps to us for Central State Hospital through our advertisement. The lamps will be appreciated by many patients. Speedway Jaycee Jaynes

Water Revenue Bonds Proposed To Finance Water Treatment Plant A $535,000.00 water revenue bond ordinance will be presented for passage at the regular meeting of the Town Board of Trustees on Monday evening, Stepember 9, 1963, at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Bernard T. Perry, utility accountant, told the Town Board at Monday night’s meeting that upon the issuance and sale of $535,000.00 of water revenue bonds, the Town, which can apply $200,000.00 already accumulated in the water utility, can pay for the cost of construction of the proposed water treatment plant on Eagle Creek, estimated at $735,000.00. Mr. Perry estimated that annual revenue of $158,544.00 would be required to service the bonds which would be repayable over a period of thirty (30) years, with interest to be determined at the market, but at not more than 4%% per annum. Using the most recent operating figures for the Speedway Water Works, Mr. Perry suggested that an additional $12,000.00 per annum would be necessary to continue the efficient operation of the water utility, provide for adequate depreciation and reserves and service the bonds. To acquire the additional $12,000.00 per year the Town Board proposes to increase the water rate in the last two (2) steps of the rate schedule and to increase the cost of the public fire protection from $75.00 to SIOO.OO per fire hydrant per annum. There would be no increase in water rates to residential consumers nor in the SIOO.OO per annum paid for private fire protection. For commercial and industrial consumers using over 350,000 gallons of water per month the rate would increase from 12c to 16c per thousand gallons and for consumers using in excess of 850,000 gallons of water per month the rate would increase from 10c to 14c. Any residents interested in being heard concerning the proposed ordinance are urged to attend the Town Board meeting on September 9, 1963. SENIOR CYF PAPER SALE SATURDAY. SEPT. 7th SAVE PAPERS!!!
