Legion Presents Rag To Town Speedway Post 198, The American Legion, presented an American Flag to the town of Speedway on March 2, 1963. The sx7’ storm flag was presented to Mr. Ray L. Oeth, Town Clerk of the Civil Town of Speedway, by Post Commander Robert A. Johnson. In addition, to the flag presented to the town of Speedway, Post 198 has presented ten flag sets to Brownie Troops and Cub Scout Packs in the Speedway area since January 1, 1963. Flag presentations are one of the activities of the American Legion in fostering Americanism in the community.
Board of Zoning Appeals OF THE TOWN OF SPEEDWAY PRESCRIBED NOTICE OF HEARING ONPETITION FOR VARIANCE All persons interested are hereby notified that on the Ist day of May, 1963, at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall, 1450 North Lyndhurst Drive, Speedway, Indiana, the Board of Zoning Appeals of the Town of Speedway will hold a public hearing on a petition for a variance on the property at 5757 Crawfordsville Rd., Speedway, Indiana, more particularly described as follows: A part of the Southwest Quarter of Section 25, Township 16 North, Range 2 East, Marion County, Indiana, and more particularly described as: Beginning at a point in the east line of said quarter section, 305.40 feet north of the southeast corner thereof, thence North 62 degrees 06 minutes 40 seconds West on and along the North Right of Way Line of the Peoria and Eastern R.R. for a distance of 205.79 feet; thence North 41 degrees 39 minutes 40 seconds East for a distance of 98.82 feet to a point in the South Right of Way Line of the Crawfordsville Road (S.R. 136) as now existing; thence south 49 degrees 14 minutes 40 seconds East on and along said right of way line for a distance of 29.78 feet to the P. T. of a courve whose radius is 3684.75 feet: thence South 46 degrees 44 minutes 00 seconds East for a distance of 128.06 feet to a point in the east line of said quarter section; thence South 00 degrees 00 minutes 00 seconds on and along said east line for a distance of 63.30 feet to the point of beginning, containing 0.293 acres, more or less, subject, however, to any and all legal highways and rights of way. Local Girl Scouts Enjoy Dude Ranch Two Girl Scout Troops from Speedway, Ind., donned western attire for a week end at the Lightning Dude Ranch with several members out shooting and out riding their male counterparts in burro races and the Turkey shoot. The Troops were 557 and 218. Renne White a member of Troop 218 outshot a field of 50 contestants to win a turkey to bring home. Three Girl Scouts formed a team to win the burro race event. They were Tamara Griffith of Troop 218, Francie Tomlinson and Christine Sherman both of Troop 557. The egg throwing contest was won by Tamara Griffith and Christine Sherman while Shirley Davidson captured the running race award. Best rider ribbon award went to Beverly Griggs, first, Lynn Pieper, second, Nikki Comsa, third, Donna Troutman, fourth.

Muzzle Loading Shoot The Marion County Fish and Game Assn., located on highway 136 at Eagle Creek, one mile west of Speedway, will have their first Muzzle Loading Shoot this year on Sunday afternoon, April 28, starting at 1:00 p.m. There will be six matches. Girl Scout News Troop 219 has had a number of activities lately. We have picked new patrol leaders which are the following: Cloverleaf Patrol —Patrol leader, Maryanne Newsome; Asst. Patrol leader, Jinny Sauer; Treasurer, Nancy Casady. Blue Angel Patrol—Patrol leader, Amy Prather; Asst. Patrol leader, Kathy Garner; Treasurer, Debby Hood. Eagle Patrol—Patrol leader, Karen Sharp; Asst. Patrol leader, Christy Swisher; Treasurer, Tami Stewart. Recently we have had a film about Girl Scouts from many different countries meeting together. Also we have invested two girls in our Scout troop. They are: Darla Schaub and Barbara Coats. A while back the Blue patrol gave a Valentine party. The Cloverleafs just had the Easter party April 2. In the future Troop 219 is planning to go on a Camp-out on May 10 through May 12. They will be camping out in tents in the campsite Romany. Scribe, Donna Atkinson.
May Day Luncheon As the highlight of their annual membership drive the West Group of the Women’s Symphony Committee is holding a May Day Luncheon on Wednesday, May 1, 1963. The luncheon will be held at the Woodstock Country Club, 1301 West Maple Road, at 12:30 p.m. Symphony committee members and prospective members will gather for a social time at 12 noon before the luncheon. A large May Pole will be in the entry way as guests arrive, while a smaller pole and May baskets of flowers will carry out the May theme on the tables. Members of the Speedway Musicale will entertain with a special musical program. Guests will be invited to remain after the program to play cards and become better acquainted. Mrs. Chris A. MEADOWOOD HOME OWNERS ASS'N. At a recent meeting of the property owners in the Meadowood subdivision to protest a zoning variance which had been requested, it was proposed that an association be formed comprised of residents of this northwest Speedway area. Approximately 125 property owners attended. The proposal was voted upon and carried unanimously. A temporary chairman, Mr. V. G. Edwards, 6045 Schoolwood Dr., was appointed. Permanent officers for the association will be elected in the near future. Several committees were formed within the organization to assist the chairman in his various functions. The next meeting will be held in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 5625 W. 30th St. at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 29. Residents of Meadowood are urged to attend. Entry to the church is East on 30th St. from High School Road.

Shrine Circus The Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum has been transformed into a gigantic, colorful “big top” in preparation for the 18th annual Murat Shrine Circus. The Circus opens today (Thursday, April 25) for a four day run of ten big performances. More than 100,000 persons are expected to attend the gay extravaganza.. The performance schedule is as follows: Thursday, 3:15 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; Friday 3:15 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; Saturday 10:00 a.m., 2:15 pm. and 8:00 p.m.; Sunday, 12:45 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Again this year the Humble Oil Company has bought out the 8:00 p.m. performance on Thursday, and is offering the tickets at discount prices at all their ENCO Service Stations.
