Wright, director of bands at Purdue University and Chairman of the Parade Band Committee, Mr. Carmichael has developed a song that reflects the spirit and flavor of the Parade and Race. Already scheduled for publishing the new “500” Festival song will be arranged for military band and will be performed by several bands participating in the 1963 Parade as well as by the Purdue University Band at the pre-Race

Hoagy Carmichael composed the song at the request of “500” Festival President Moorhead who in contacting Mr. Carmichael said: “I believe that our “500” Festival is one of the nation’s top activities of its kind and it is only fitting that we have a “theme” song composed by one of the nation’s top composers.
