Red Cross volunteer first aid instructor James R. Julian, 3601 North Colorado, is demonstrating how to bandage a head injury. Thirty-five additional volunteer instructors are needed to teach first aid classes and ten volunteer graduate nurses are needed to teach Care of the Sick and Injured and Mother and Baby Care classes. Eggnog Pie Royale Wins Dessert Honors You’ll score high honors for baking everytime you serve Eggnog Pie Royale—a luscious chiffon pie combining two holiday favorites, eggnog and Black Bottom Pie, into one scrumptious dessert. Best of all, on these busy days you make the pie way ahead of serving time to chill in the refrigerator. When friends drop in as is the custom at this time of year, you’ll be glad you have Eggnog Pie Royale ready for serving. Springle cold water, a few drops at a time, over the flour mixture, pushing moistened parts aside until all are evenly moistened and cling together. Use a fork for stirring. Press dough lightly together, then roll out to circle 1% inches wider than pie pan. Fit pastry loosely into pan. Trim edge, fold under and flute. Prick with fork. Bake and cool the pastry shell.
Sprinkle grated chocolate over the pastry shell. Then pile high With clouds of eggnog filling made .gxtra special wifik rum extract I with grated chocolate and chill. EGGNOG PIE ROYALE 1 9-inch baked pastry shell 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin (1 envelope) % cup cold water 1% cups milk % cup sugar 2 tablespoons enriched flour 2 eggs, beaten % cup slivered blanched almonds % teaspoon nutmeg 1 cup whipping cream (% pint) 4-ounce bar sweet chocolate, finely shaved or grated
Soften gelatin in cold water. Scald milk. Stir sugar and flour into eggs. Gradually, add about half of milk to egg mixture, stirring constantly. Blend egg-milk mixture into remaining milk. Cook over moderate heat, stiring constantly, until mixture comes to boiling point. Cook 2 minutes and remove from heat. Add softened gelatin, stirring until dissolved. Chill until partially set. Stir in almonds and nutmeg. Whip cream until stiff. Fold into gelatin mixture. Reserve 2 tablespoons shaved chocolate and sprinkle remaining over bottom of cooled pastry shell. Pour gelatin mixture over chocolate. Decorate top of pie with reserved chocolate. Chill until firm. Makes one 9-inch pie. NOTE: If desired, 1 teaspoon o r rum may be added for flavoring
