SPEEDWAY CHRISTIAN CHURCH (Continued from Page 1) without a permanent church home. Next Sunday at the 9:00 service the chancel choir will sing and at the 11:00 service the Motet choir will sing. Dr. Montgomery will give the sermons. The chancel bouquet for next Sunday will be given by Mrs. Ada English in memory of Mr. Orville English. Senior Hi CYF will meet in Fellowship HaU at 6:00 pan. A series of five meetings will be conducted for our congregation next week, Monday through Friday. Letters are being sent to the homes and 200 families will be invited each night. We hope all will make every effort to attend one of these important meetings. If you cannot attend on the evening designated for you, arrange to attend one of the other evenings. Dorcas Circle will meet on Tuesday, January Bth at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. Lawrence Thompson, 4960 W. 15th Street. She will be assisted by Mrs. S. L. McCormick. Mrs. Ralph M. Carey will conduct tne worship and Mrs. Ivan Davidson will present the program. Kezia Circle has postponed its January meeeting because of the scheduled church meetings. Evening Circle has postponed its meeting from January Bth to the third Tuesday, January 15th. The meeting will be held in the Singletons Room at 7:30 p.m. Hostesses will be Mary Grimes, Mildred Middaugh and Nona Burdge. Juanita Sauter will give the worship and Agnes Spencer, the program. Los Amigos Class has postponed its regular supper meeting from January 11 to Friday, January 18th, at 6:30 p.m. The Pastor’s Cabinet and Official Board meetings have been postponed because of the scheduled church meetings. Choirs will rehearse as usual next week. However, there may be a change in rehearsal rooms which will be announced later. The rose on our lectern last Sunday announced the birth of Gary Lee Sweet bom December 21st to William and Dolores Sweet.

Krannert Swim Program The Krannert Family YMCA offers its members a well rounded swim program and since the opening of the new building over 500 boys and girls have learned to swim at the “Y.” The “Y” swim program is in three phases: instruction, recreation, and competitive. The program is under the direction of Bill Despres, Physical Director. The instruction program begins

at the age of four. These classes are known as, Tadpoles. At the age of six, members begin in the Beginner class. Other steps include, Minnow (swim 75 feet), Fish (swim 100 yards), Flying Fish (swim 200 yards), and Shark (swim 300 yards). There are other tests that are included in each class. They include diving, the various strokes, and general improvement of their stroke. After Shark the members have the opportunity to work on life saving. There are 203 boys and girls enrolled in the Winter I swim classes, which end on January 26th. Instruction also is offered the

Adult members. The women’s instruction is under the direction of Sharon Hotopp and Carol Rowilinson. Classes include Beginners, Intermediate, and Advance. There are 68 women enrolled in the Winter I Quarter. The second phase of swimming at the Krannert “Y” is Recreation and Family swim. The pool is open every afternoon and evening after 6:45 pan. for recreation and family swim. The pool is also open Saturday and Sunday afternoon for swimming. During the month of November over 5000 attended the recreation and family swims. Members of the “Y” have over 30 hours of good time a week to use the pool for recreation or family swimming. at Krannert “Y’s” competitive swimming. In 1960 the Krannert YMCA launched its age group competitive swimming program with nineteen boys and girls reporting to the first practice. The two ypar period which followed saw the program grow to a group consistting of 70 boys and girls ranging from 6 to 16” years of age. The parents of our swim team members are behind the team 100% and participate in many projects to help finance trips.
