New expanded Metropolitan Telephone Service to benefit over 250,000 telephone users in Greater Indianapolis Area! After two years of planning and construction, and an investment of millions of dollars, a dynamic, telephone calling system for Indianapolis and neighboring communities will go into effect on Sunday, October 7th. This system, called Metrdplan, will add new usefulness and value to your telephone service by expanding the area over which local calls can be made, by improving long distance service through the magic of Direct Distance Dialing—and other important service improvements. Metroplan will provide convenient, inexpensive communication to meet the growing social and business needs of suburban living which has eliminated geographical boundaries and caused distances to shrink. Metroplan is Indiana Bell’s answer to the challenge of the tremendous population growth—geographical growth—of the Indianapolis area. It is a result of our determination to maintain your telephone service as the finest in the world.
METROPLAN DOES AWAY WITH MOST LONG DISTANCE CHARGES UP TO 24 MILES FROM DOWNTOWN INDIANAPOLIS
Long Distance charges will be eliminated from more than 1,500,000 calls a year made by reeddents of participating exchanges. Experience indicates that calls placed within this area could increase rapidly by at least ten times to a total of 15,000,000 calls a year. IMltiyißl SBCTOrS HI IMMMpMB bdMfE (tt mbvMe'W Ml** When Metroplan starts, eight-party service will bo eliminated and upgraded to four-, two- or one-party sendee for thousands in outlying sectors of the Indianapolis Exchange.
