a qualified car ceases to be one of the 33 fastest, it automatically is forced out of the starting lineup and all qualifiers farther back in the field are moved up one notch to fill the vacant spot. If this happens, the driver who qualified the eliminated car may riimh into an unqualified car and attempt to regain a starting position. No driver may make a second qualifying attempt, however, as long as the car which he qualified first still is ranked as one of the 33 fastest. A fraction of a mile an hour can be extremely important and practice activity probably will reach its peak on Thursday and Friday as unqualified entrants seek additional speed for their official runs against the dock.
