BAPTIST CHURCH OF THE MASTER New officers of the Woman’s Mission Society of the Baptist Church of the Master, 1620 N. Girls School Rd., will be installed at the next meeting of the Society, Monday, May 14, 7:30 p.m. Guest installing officer will be Mrs. Dallas West, a member of First Baptist Church of Indianapolis, who has been active in several phases of American Baptist woman’s work. Fish And Game Open Meeting The Marion County Fish and Game Assn, will provide a colored movie of the 1961 “500” race at its May 15th open meeting. This is under the asupices of Mr. Wilson D. York of public relations department of Stark & Wetzel and Co., Inc. He has planned a family meeting around the “500” mile race. The principal speaker will be one of the best known race drivers, and in addition to the film will bring some of the high-lights of the “500” Parade. Also, if time permits, the entertainment committee will present some interesting facts about our race track, the. total area, the seating capacity and other up-to-date information. All club members and their friends are cordially invited to attend this wonderful show. Meeting starts promptly at 7:30 p.m. at the club house.

Cancel - Marmaduke The marriage of Miss Barbara Ann Marmaduke and Hilton J. Cancel took place April 14 in Indianapolis. Attendants were Miss Sandra Manion and Mr. Donald Tabor. O’Neal Receives Notre Dame Scholarship Bill O’Neal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. A. O’Neal, 1639 Auburn, will enter Notre Dame next fall on an academic and athletic scholarship. Bill, who is a Senior at Speedway High School, is a 10-letter-man and will graduate with the most athletic points ever accumulated by a Speedway man. Bill was selected for the Indiana AllStar Basketball team. He has served four years on the Student Council and is presently the president of that group. PERSONALS Eli Lilly and Company’s eighteenth annual banquet honoring employees with twenty-five or more years of service will be held May 10 at the Indianapolis Athletic Club. Herb Shriner, Hoosier humorist, will be the speaker. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. will be preceded by a reception at 5:45 p.m. Joseph O. Waymire, vice-presi-dent and treasurer, will serve as toastmaster. Invited to the banquet from Speedway are: Jack H. Kord, 1617 North Auburn; Harold C. Ruschaupt, 1720 N. Lyndhurst Drive; Miss Beatrice M. Smith, 1707 Norfolk. Mrs. Chas. H. Cole and son David have returned from a tenday vacation in West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale. Daughters Beverly and Charlene flew down to join them. Beverly was accompanied by three sorority sisters. William R. Powell, former Speedway teacher, was honored for distinguished teaching during Founders Day Convocation at Indiana University. Mr. Powell is a graduate assistant in education and has completed his doctoral work and will be on the faculty of Ball State Teachers College next year.
Girl Scout News TROOP 427 would like to thank Mrs. Beth Blind for showing some interesting things about First Aid. GIRL SCOUT TROOP 433 enjoyed an overnight at Camp Dellwood on May 4th and sth. Many thanks to our leaders who accompanied us and to the mothers who took some of the girls out there. Our thanks also to Linda Doll, Jean Walker and Linda Russert from Troop 23 who helped us out. We have almost completed our work toward our 2nd Class requirements. We are looking forward to our Family Night in June. TROOP 507 is looking forward to its Flying-Up ceremony the first Monday in June at the Methodist Church. We have done several interesting things for our Tenderfoot requirements. We went swimming at Westwood, had an Easter Party at Mrs. McKinney’s. Mrs. Croney and Mrs. Hawkins were co-hostesses. Thanks to the mothers for their party. Linda Hawkins, publicity. Ralph Smith To Open Second Shop Ralph C. Smith, owner of Smith’s Barber and Beauty Shop, 4905 W. 14th Street, has announced the opening in the very near future of a new ultra modern barber shop in the “500” Speedway Shopping Center. He will also continue to operate in his present 14th Street location. Mr. Smith has been in his present location for the past 19 years. Mr. and Mrs. Smith live at 1780 Cunningham Rd. and have two daughters and one grandchild. Watch for Opening Day announcement. Philip E. Mann Rites for Philip E. Mann, 79, mill foreman and cabinet-maker for Speedway Lumber Co. until his retirement in 1955, was Monday at 10 a.m. in Conkle Speedway Funeral Home with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mr. Mann died Friday in Methodist Hospital. His home was at 4986 Ford, in Speedway. He worked for Speedway Lumber Co. for 35 years and was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. He is survived by the widow, Sadie Mann; two sons, John and Bernard Mann; a daughter, Bargaret Logston, all of Indianapolis; two sisters, Clara Grogan of Swathmore, Pa., and Mabie Billings of Punta Gorda, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

(Continued on Page 6) * LOCAL TRI KAPPAS TO ASSIST IN SPONSORING HORSE SHOW Speedway Chapter along with eight other Indianapolis area Tri Kappa chapters will sponsor an Arabian horse show July 28 and 29 in the Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This show will be given by the Indiana Arabian Horse Club. Mr. John Flanders, Arcadia, president of the club announced that Dr. Jose de la Torriente, Coral Gables, would be the judge. Dr. Torriente, who formerly lived in Cuba, will donate his salary to the Cuban refugee fund. General admission tickets will be $1 for each of three sessions and $2.25 for box seats. Plans are being made to set up ticket booths at the shopping centers or may be purchased from any member of the sorority. Proceeds will be used to further our work at the New Hope School for Retarded Children.
