Walter C. Blase has filed for the office of State Representative on the Republican ticket. Mr. Blase is married, has two children and lives at 1665 N. Whitcomb. He has lived in Speedway for 34 years. During this time he has served as a member of the volunteer fire dept., he was also a member of the Speedway Zoning Board. He is interested in youth and is the donor of the W. C. Blase Sportmanship award given to Speedway High School each year. He is an active member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and a member of Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge. He was the Republican candidate for the office of Wayne Township Trustee in 1958 and was also delegate to the convention.
Hobby Homemakers The Speedway Hobby Homemakers will meet April 12, 10:30 am. at the home of Viola Parke with Goldie Lesman as co-hostess. Since this is an all day meeting each member is to bring a sandwich. Dessert and coffee will be served by the hostesses. The business meeting will be held before lunch. The afternoon will be devoted to making felt frog bean bats for the children at Muscatatuck. Please bring scissors, needle, pins and thimble. The materials will be furnished by the club. It is urgent that members make a special effort to attend this meeting as the committee would like to finish as many of these bean bags as possible. If you cannot attend, please notify the hostess.

BOY SCOUT NEWS Up "Grunt and Groan" Slope with Troop 66 The 10 o’clock Line Trail was the big event for the Boy Scouts of Speedway’s Troop and Post 66 on Saturday, March 24th. Twentysix boys and three adults hiked the trail in conjunction with one of the troop’s regularly scheduled overnight camp-outs. PROGRAM OF ORGAN MUSIC A Program of Organ Music featuring Miss Susan Ruth Armbrust will be presented at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 5700 Crawfordsville Road, Speedway, on Sunday, April 8, 1962, at 3:00 pan. Miss Armbrust, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Armbrust, 5890 West 10th Street, is a member of St. Andrew’s and a sophomore at DePauw University. She is working on her Bachelor of Music Degree as her major. Her instructor at the University is Professor Arthur Carkeek. Included in the program will be “Prelude and Fuge in d minor” by Lubeck, Four Choral Preludes by Bach, “Prelude and Fuge in f minor” by Buxtehude, “Deux Pieces en style libre” and “Carillon de Westminster” by Vierae. Eagle Scout James Hansen Receives Highest Church Award Eagle Scout James Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Stanley Hansen, 1814 McArthur, Speedway, received the highest church award a Boy Scout can earn, the Pro Deo et Patria award (the God and Country award) Sunday, April Ist at St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Crawfordsville Rd. This honor was conferred to him by the National Lutheran Committee on Scouting and presented to him by Rev. Phillip Bigelow, Explorer Post 66 Advisor Fred Hoerger, Troop 66 Scout Master Dick Schilling and West District Scout Commissioner Chris Schrock. The Pro Deo et Patria award to Jim was the climax of over 3 years of work. Some of the requirements are, at least 150 hours service to his church as well as serving as acolyte—he must also be a very good Scout in all ways. Jim made a replica of “Aaron’s Breast Plate” for his special project which is on display in the nave of the church. Jim was the third Boy Scout of St. Andrew’s to receive this award, others were Jerry Zimmer and Dave Kress. We all send congratulations to Jim and his parents.

Hiking Club The Indianapolis Hiking Club will hike at Prairie Valley Scout Camp, Kikthawenund, on Sunday, April 8. The group will meet at 1:00 p.m. on the east side of the State House and drive via Road 37A through Noblesville to one mile north of the junction with Route 13 and turn east to the camp. Girl Scout News Attention—Neighborhood meeting, Thursday, April 12th, Methodist Church, 1:15 pan. The 22 members of Girl Scout Troop 400 who attend St Christopher School have been very busy this year working on our 2nd class requirements. Our 3 patrol leaders this year are Beverly Preston, Barbara Shaefer and Mary Wall. Jo Ann Kress is our scribe and Jeanette White our Treasurer. Our other activities this year have included several parties at Christmas time we visited the Little Sisters of the Poor and Caroled, for them. Ebtiasm Kassim, a student nurse from Egypt, visited our troop March 28. We’re looking forward to our overnight at Camp Dellwood May 4. Tri Kappa News The Speedway Epsilon Eta Chapter celebrated its eleventh anniversary with a dinner at the Warren Hotel Tuesday evening, March 27. More than forty members attended. HEART FUND LEADERSHIP HONORED Thirty-seven Marion County women who have a combined total of 88 years service as leaders in local Heart Fund campaigns were honored Saturday, March 31 at the annual Dutch-treat luncheon of regional chairmen at the Key Shrimp House, 2861 Madison Avenue. The awards in the form of Good Heart Award pins and certificates of appreciation were presented by Mrs. Richard C. Borden, 5815 Crittenden Avenue, 1962 Heart Sunday chairman. Speedway P.T.A. Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the Speedway PT A will be held Wednesday, April 11th in the High School Gym.
