The Speedway Musicale Showing its versatility by a complete change of pace, the Speedway Musicale chooses “The Sonata” as its program theme for this month. Hostessing the group on Tuesday, February 27th, at 1:15 p.m. will be* Mrs. Ruth Borst at 5837 Hollister Drive. Assisting her will be Jane Lyons and Georgianna Ritter. Roberta Rarick will introduce and guide the program with her commentary. She will present four piano soloists who will each play a sonata, as follows: Georgianna Ritter Sonata Pathetique by Beethoven (Ist movement). Nelle Hoss—Sonata 1 in Key of C by Mozart. Mary Hanna —Sonata and Fantasy by Mozart. Betty Gagen—Sonata 7 in D Major by Haydn. In addition to the program, the Hymn of the Month will be introduced and lead by Lillian Armbrust. The Current Events for this month will be related by Magdalene Keen. The regular business meeting will be presided over by Edrie Ashby following the musical portion of the program. Next month the Speedway Musicale will depart from its usual procedure of solo and small group performance. Almost the entire membership of the organization will take part in a folk opera, “Oown In The Valley” by Kurt Weill. We are working hard and enthusiastically on this production which will be staged very simply, but we hope adequately!

K. Of C. Mardi Gras Party Council 437 of the Knights of Columbus will take a last fling before Lent with a real “New Orleans” type Mardi Gras party, it was announced by Leonard Staab, Grand Knight of the local Council. The gala affair is set for Saturday night, March 3, at the K. of C. auditorium, 1305 North Delaware Street. Plans call for a complete costume affair with prizes being awarded for the most original, the most ridiculous and the most beautiful costume. The decorations, under the direction of George Killinger, will follow the theme of a typical New Orleans street at the turn of the century. Highlite of the evening, though not early New Orleans, will be a “Twist” contest. Music for the evening will be supplied by Bob Dahl and his Bluetones. Part of the proceeds from the festive evening will go toward the support of Gibault Home, school for boys. Tickets may be obtained from George Cox at 1305 North Delaware Street, or by calling ME. 5-3052. Everyone is welcome. Cost, $2.50 per couple.

St. Andrew's Celebrates Twentieth Anniversary Thursday, February 22, marks the twentieth anniversary of the organizing of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 5700 Crawfordsville Road. It was February 22, 1942, when 66 people met in the Speedway Theater for the formal organization service of the then new congregation. In observance of this event there will be a congregational pitch-in dinner-anniversary program next Sunday, February 25, beginning at 5 p.m. This dinner will specifically honor all those who have taught regularly or served as officers in the Sunday Church School at some time during the last twenty years. The event is for all St. Andrew’s families and friends of the congregation. The program for the evening will include greetings and remarks by former pastors, special music by both Senior and Youth choirs, a reading of the history of the congregation, and four humorous skits portraying gatherings in each of St. Andrew’s four locations the Speedway Theater, the Speedway Town Hall, the former church site at 16th and Beeler, and the present site on Crawfordsville Road. On display will be pictures, bulletins and brochures, clippings, and news notes descriptive of the congregations twenty year history.
HEART SUNDAY Mrs. Richard C. Borden, of 5815 Crittenden Avenue, will direct an organization of approximately 9,000 volunteer workers who are to participate in the eighth annual Heart Sunday campaign February 25 in Indianapolis and Marion County. Of the total 1962 Heart Month goal of $137,000 in this country more than half, of $70,000, is expected to be raised on Heart Sunday. FAMILY NIGHT Michigan Street Methodist Church, 2132 West Michigan Street, will have ‘Tamily Night” Sunday evening, February 25, 1962, at the church. A basket supper is to be served at 5:30 p.m. The feature of the evening is a “Talent Night” program. Friends of the Church as well as members are cordially invited.

JAYCEES TO SELL SEAT BELTS The Speedway Junior Chamber of Commerce has adopted a new project to be held in cooperation with all Jaycee Clubs in Indiana. Seat Belts will be sold locally from March Ist to April Ist and from May Ist to June Ist. Jack Fuller, local project chairman, stated that a film produced by the University of Southern California on Seat Belts was shown Wednesday at the Jaycee Dinner meeting. W.S.C.S. Sfyle Show The Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Speedway Methodist Church will have their spring style show on Friday, March 2, at 8:00 p m. in the church basement. The show, presented by Paul Harris Dress Shop, will include various sizes of children’s and women’s clothes. There will be a donation of 75c for adults and 35c for children. Tickets may be purchased from any W.S.C.S. member or at the door the night of the show. “Mrs. Indiana” of the “Mrs. America” contest will be special guest. She will- model and give a short talk about her experiences in her new role. Other models will be local children, teen-agers and ladies of the church.
Organ Festival At Speedway Christian At 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 25th, the second in a series of Organ Festivals will be presented at the Speedway Christian Church, 14th Street and Winton Avenue. The festivals are designed to display the tonal resources of the magnificent pipe organ just recently installed in this church. The instrument, largely of “classic” design, speaks with great eloquence and articulation. The organist, John Stuber, is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. He has studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, where music critics accorded him outstanding reviews. The program: Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C major; O Mensch, bewein’ dein’ Suende gross; Kommst du nun, Jesu, vom Himmel herunter; Wir glauben All’ an einem Gott; all by J. S. Bach. February 24, the last day of the IHSAA Sectional Tourneys, is the close of the 1961-62 season for all independent basketball playing. This rule applies to seniors as well as all other students. Give this information now to students, newspapers and all those sponsoring independent basketball games in your community.”

Robert A. Hart Rites for Robert A. Hart, 34, a radio dispatcher for the Speedway Police Department, were Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Conkle Speedway Funeral Home with burial in Floral Park Cemetery. A native of Walton, Mr. Hart died Friday in his home, 4965 Ford, Speedway. He lived in Speedway 30 years. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Speedway Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Fraternal Order of Police. Survivors include the mother, Mrs. Flecia Hart, and a sister, Mary Lou Cockman, both of Speedway.
