Westwood Square Dance Gabe Owens is calling for our Saturday night dance, February 3, 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. Metropolitan Westside Plans To Preserve Local History A meeting is being called in Washington High School for the purpose of giving and receiving suggestions from a group of West-, side citizens who are interested in a history of the entire westside. The plan is to record the great events and the great disasters and the great economic and building progress of that section of Marion County which includes the districts west of White River to Eagle Creek and all of Wayne Township and Speedway City. Within this district such great industries as the Link Belt Co., Allisons, the Adams, Westinghouse, Kingans, Linde and others have been helping build one of Indiana’s greatest industrial centers. In this same district the worldrenowned Speedway has annually brought its hundreds of thousands to watch the world’s greatest display of motive power. Here also Indiana’s greateest airport extends it’s great runways to the air traffic of the nation. Here also such great schools

as Washington, Ben Davis and Speedway are swinging wide their doors to the thousands of high school youth to aid in their education. Here also between the river and the county line west half a hundred churches bring their message of spiritual living. Last but not least a hundred thousand human beings, strong and enterprising are building or have built substantial homes among these factories and schools and social agencies. It is well to preserve the story of the upswing of the great Westside. The group being brought tc gether on February 7th is only a fraction of those whom we have to contact for information during the next 10 months. We plan to record “The Westside Story” starting with of greatest disaster, the flood of 1913 and continue the story as our westside surmounted this disaster and is now, 50 years later, reaching the heights of its enterprize and achievement. We hope soon to record the names of those who will make up the advisory and planning group for this history adventure. Among those who have consented to share in this enterprize are many leaders from our industries, schools, churches, social agencies and business groups, some old in experience and wide in acquaintance, others in the strength of middle years and carrying great responsibilities.
