GIRL SCOUT NEWS TROOP 433 had a Halloween party on Oct. 31 at Connie Lee’s house. We made trick or treat bags and played games. We want to thank the members of Patrol 3 and their mothers for a very nice party. On Nov. 7 we celebrated our third troop birthday. Our troop was happy to have Karen Chaleff and Lorrie Trampton join us last year. We wish to welcome Christy Swisher and Patty Schanne to our troop. Connie Lee, Scribe. TROOP 938 had a wonderful time skating on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Melody Skateland. Nov. 10th and 11th we spent 2 days and 1 night at Camp Delwood with our Leader, Mrs. James. We wish to give Mrs. Carter a special vote of thanks for coming with us, because our co-leader, Mrs. Vaughn was unable to come. We had a wonderful time hiking and singing around the fireplace. It is open only to students of high professional potential, as evidenced by an outstanding scholastic record and demonstrated leadership ability. Mrs. Elizabeth Fraser, 5007 W. 14th St., Speedway, has been initiated into Omicron Nn, home economics honorary for upperclass women at Indiana University. Mrs. Fraser comleted the requirements for a masters degree last August.

SPEEDWAY MUSICALE The spirit of Fall with its focus on beauty and religious festival is somehow caught as the Speedway Musicale concentrates this month on modern composers with the theme “Today’s Parade of Music.” The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at 1:15 at the home of Mary Hanna, 210 South High School Road with Lois Bobo and Neli Hoss assisting. The program commentary will be by Betty Gagen who then will introduce the following: Jane Farley, vocal solo, The Greatest of These is Love by Roberta Bitgood. Ruth Borst—piano solo, Mardi Gras from Mississippi Suite by Ferde Grofe. Georgianna Ritter, organ solo, Spirit of God by W. H. Neidlinger. Georgianna Ritter and Mary Hanna, Piano and Organ duet, Reverie by Debussy. Helen Robinson, Betty Frey, Irene Rudness, Betty Gagen, Jane Lyons, Nancy Williams, vocal ensemble, Clouds by Ernest Charles. Recordings of music by Morton Gould and Max Steiner will also be played. The Hymn of the Month will be introduced by Lillian Armburst. Genevieve North will give the Current Event. Edrie Ashby will conduct a business meeting following the program. Fifteen of the active members of the Speedway Musicale are singing in the Messiah next Sunday evening and the organization is proud to be the sponsor of this worthwhile community enterprise. Engagement Announced Miss Janice Patricia Allen and David Ray Oeth will be married Jan. 27 in the Speedway Christian Church. She is a student at Butler University and he is a junior at General Motors Institute, Flint, Mich. The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Russell Allen, 5634 Meadowood Drive. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Oeth, 4950 West 14th Street. "Early Days In Indiana" “Early Days in Indiana” will be discussed at the Children’s Museum program Saturday at 11 o’clock, when David Cassady, Museum staff member, displays the Museum collection of pioneer objects and describes the lighting and heating of early homes, the farm work, schooling, spinning and weaving, household tasks such as candle making, and children’s activities. Everyone is invited to attend the weekly event, and no admission is charged. Mr. Cassady will also show the interior of the pioneer log cabin that has been erected on Museum grounds, and which is the only such dwelling remaining in Marion County. It is furnished with pieces actually used in the early 19th century: a high-backed settee, a spinning wheel, a “mammy rocker” that was a combination baby cradle and rocking chair, and other objects. At the fireplace, which retains its original fire-blackened mantel, are iron cooking pots, a warming pan, a trencher, a rifle and powder horn, and many household utensils. Enrollment is still being accepted from Girl Scouts and Campfire Giris for the weather badge class to be held at the Museum December 2,9, 16, and 30. The group will meet from 2 to 4 o’clock. To enroll, a girl may take or mail to the Museum, her name, address, troop number, and the SI.OO fee that covers cost of materials used in the class. A different badge class will be formed each month, and a Saturday morning activity is scheduled at the Museum at 11 throughout the school year.

ANNUAL SPEEDWAY FOOTBALL BANQUET Two hundred and fifty (250) persons attended the recent Speedway High School’s Annual Football Banquet on Wednesday, November 15. 1961. The banquet was sponsored by the Speedway Lions Club. Master of ceremonies for the occasion was Dr. T. A. Hanna. Members of the 1961 football team (the Mid-State Champions) who received special recognition were as follows: Most Improved Player, Gary Nice. Lineman of the Year Award, Steve Thomas. The Hanna Award (Scholastic Award), Denny Hackett. Most Valuable Player Award, John Hardin The Lions Club gave special awards to the varsity football team members, student managers, cheer leaders and the coaching staff. A pleasant surprise was the tribute paid to Coach Ralph Johnson. The varsity team members presented him with a special trophy acknowledging their appreciation for his fine leadership. Special tribute was also paid to the parents of the football players. John Hardin presented an orchid to his mother, Mrs. James A. Hardin, 2502 Moeller Road, as part of the ceremony honoring the “Most Valuable Player.” The M.V.P. Award recipient is selected by a secret ballot of the varsity team members. The speaker for the Football Banquet was Herbert F. Schwomeyer, Dean of Men at Butler University. Chairman of the Football Banquet for the Speedway Lions Club was Don C. Hammer. OPEN HOUSE A SUCCESS Last Friday night over 200 Senior High youth of the Speedway area enjoyed dancing, eating, ping-pong, and conversation. This happy event was the first of a series of “After-Game Open House” at the Speedway Christian Church. But success was much more than numbers: it was the fine attitude and conduct of our teenagers; and the time and talent of good-natured adults who had fun working. Thanks to the many adults and youth who worked in preparation and production. Don Billups* d.j. talents were very much appreciated, also. Open House director Jim Simons announced last Friday night that the tentative date for the next Open House is after the Mooresville game, Friday night of December Bth Watch the Flyer for further details. Homecoming At Michigan Street Methodist Church Home Coming and Family night will be observed at Michigan Street Methodist Church, 2132 West Michigan Street, Sunday evening, November 26, 1961 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Personal invitations have been sent to former Pastors and their families who have served the Church, since 1925, when it was established. A basket supper and entertainment will proceed the Home Coming program.
