The hungry adult cannot think beyond today. Food through CARE will help break the tragic cycle. Once nourished, a child will learn, once fed, a man can work. With productive work, hopefully that man will never go hungry again. Send a food package in your name with $1 to CARE, 1 S. State, Chicago 3, Illinois.

Protein And Youngsters For the healthy functioning of body tissues—their growth, main, tenance and repair, children according to their age and weight need up to three times more protein per pound of body weight than do adults. Only generous amounts of top quality protein foods can satisfy the daily protein needs of children and adults. Protein from animal sources is particularly effective for the building of new tissue needed for growth and for maintenance and repair of body tissue because it supplies goodly amounts of all of the essential amino acids required for these bodily functions. To keep your youngsters “on their toes," in buoyant good health, with enough resistance to ward off illnesses, keep meat on their daily menus. Start them off to school or play each day with a hearty breakfast featuring meat. Give the youngsters a proteinrich lunch, even if it is simply a meat sandwich, glass of milk and a fruit dessert. Then finish the day with a nourishing meal of -meat and potatoes, a green or yellow vegetable, some crisp relishes, bread, dessert and more milk. Your dollars, through CABS, feed the hungry and then go on to do a still bigger job. For example, until recently in several countries of Latin America only one out of every three children of school age actually went to school Now, because of the CAKE school lunch program, twice as many go. Every day, every child gets a glass of milk and a bun. Will you help feed these children? Support CARE, 1 & State, Chicago 3, Illinois.

There are 179 sophomores, 130 judiors, 135 seniors and 39 unclassified students. * Street, Smooth Delight Rartlett pears have been a favorite fruit for more than two hundred years. They outrank all other varieties in quantity of production as well as in dollar value. They are such beautiful fruits, luscious, and mouth-wateringly sweet that many shoppers believe them to be a recent triumph of science rather than an age-old delicacy. Pears are one of the fruits which do not develop to their very best eating qualities while on the trees. Of course they must reach full maturity, then they are picked to later develop juiciness and fragrant sweetness. Most of the pears you find on display at produce stands need to “condition" before they are at their eating best. To ripen them perfectly, let them remain at room temperature, right in the market bag in which you brought them home. This, the experts say, creates a good ripening atmosphere.
