The first report cards of the year are scheduled to be issued today. Elementary cards are the same as last year. However, the high school has adopted a new report card for the 1961-62 school year. The new Speedway High School card will report the same information as the previous card,

The new report card is a fourpart card, the first part to be taken home by the student at the end of the first grade period; the second part at the end of the second grade period and the third part at the end of the semester. NONE of these parts are to be returned to the school. The fourth part will be retained by the school as a part of the student’s school record. At the end of each grade period all individual subject report cards will be placed in a single envelope for distribution to students on the Thursday afternoon following the end of a grade period. The new card is a “Key Sort Card” which will enable the school to sort cards mechanically which will help ease the clerical

work necessary with our growing enrollment. In order to completely understand the new card, parents should check the following: (1) Under “Number of Cards” note the hole number grooved out. This indicates the number of individual subject report cards sent home. By checking this number a parent can make sure that he sees all cards. (2) Under each six weeks’ grade period, the hole for the grade earned will be grooved out. This should be the same as the grade written on the card by the teacher for that six weeks. Due to late delivery of the new cards, this may not be done the first six weeks, but will be done for subsequent grading periods. (3) Under “Comment Key” note numbers circled, and check space under “Instructor’s Comments.” Dates for the distribution of re-

port cards will be listed in the school calendar as published in the Speedway Flyer. The Speedway Fire Department observed fire drills in all Speedway Schools last week during Fire Prevention Week. The varsity football team maintained its victory streak last Friday night with a close win over Beech Grove, 17 to 13. This Friday night the Spark Plugs play the undefeated Danville Warriors. The reserve team defeated the Avon varsity 28-6 in a game at Speedway last week.
