GIRL SCOUT NEWS The Girl Scouts of Senior Troop 471 spent a memorable weekend at the Lightning Dude Ranch, Bass Lake, Knox, Indiana. They participated in activities such as horseback riding, dodge ball, and other contests and games. Mary South worth, Mary Jo Zimmer, Sue Callahan, Pam Erickson, Lynn Schoenewey, Barbara Curry, and Janet Farley were awarded ribbons or T-shirts for their skill in handling horses, eggtossing, broad-jumping, and threelegged racing. Despite the weather, everyone enjoyed this outing very much. Troop 471 extends a special thanks to Mrs. John Southworth and Mrs. Alex Walker for arranging this trip and accompanying us.
Dick Glass Completes Business Management Training Course Dick Glass of G & M TV today completed an intensified course of business management sponsored by the State of Indiana Electronic Service Association, Inc., held at the Holiday Inn Motel. This course consisted of nine sessions touching on subjects of cost accounting, inventory control, and business practices. Those attending the program were representatives of the radio and television service trade from Indiana, lowa, and Michigan. The meetings were conducted by Mr. Newell R. Twist, Bookkeepers Business Service Co., of Pomona, California. Certificates of satisfactory completion were awarded by Mr. LaMar Zimmerman, Jr., Chairman of lESA. Attendance at such association-sponsored programs reflects the interest of Dick Glass in meeting the needs of the community.
COMING SOON TRI KAPPA CANDLE BAZAAR Kenneth I. Warren Kenneth I. Warren, 60, 2009 N. Gerrard was buried at Brownsburg after services Monday in Conkle Funeral Home. He died Friday in Memorial Clinic. Bom in Hendricks County, Mr. Warren lived in Speedway 32 years. For 27 years he worked for Real Silk Hosiery Mills. The past 8 years he was a machinist at the Esterline-Angus Instrument Co. Survivors include his wife, Irene, son Gene, three brothers, 2 sisters and 2 grandchildren. Wheeler-Whitton Miss Geri Anne Wheeler and Thomas R. Whitton are planning their wedding for Jan. 21 in the First Baptist Church at Mayfield, Ky. Parents of the bride-elect are Mrs. Merritt Trousdale of Mayfield and James L. Wheeler of Tokyo, Japan. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Whitton, 1933 Patton Drive. Miss Wheeler attended Murray (Ky.) State College, where she is a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and her fiance is a senior at Murray, where he is a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Speedway Lions Meet A total of 88 persons were in attendance at the Speedway Lions Club meeting on September 27, 1961. Raymond A. Dault, Club President, had, as a special guest, Mr. Red Lyons. Mr. Lyons is President of the Speedway Business and Professional Men’s Association and he spoke on the activity of this association.
Also as guests at this meeting were four visiting members of the Ben Davis Lions Club. This group was making an official visit and was led by Dwight Cottingham, Club President. Special recognition was paid by Club President Dault to Charles Falvey for a year’s perfect attendance and a Lions International certificate was presented to Howard M. Tindall. The Club approved a contribution of $150.00 to the Speedway Little League Football Association for the year 1961. The President’s Golf Trophy was presented to the Club Champion, James W. Boswell. The speaker for this meeting was Mr. Harold Wing, who is associated with the Fairmount Glass Corporation. His subject was the “Manufacturing of Glass Containers.”

Baptist Church Women To Meet The Woman’s Mission Society of the Baptist Church of the Master, 1620 N. Gi'tis School Road, will meet next Monday, October 9, 7:30 p.m. at the church. A color film strip on White Cross packages entitled “With Our Hands” will be shown. Devotional leader for the meeting will be Mrs. Betty Brown. Mrs. Doris Vinson is in charge of the program “A Loving Hand.” Mrs. Carrie Williams and Mrs. Charlotte Higgins will serve refreshments. St. Andrew's Lutheran Host to Convention The United Lutheran Church Men of the Indiana Synod will hold their state convention at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 5700 Crawfordsville Road, on October 7 and 8. Several outstanding laymen and pastors of the Lutheran Church are on the program. The banquet speaker Sunday evening will be Mr. Carl Jacobson, Executive Secretary of the Augustana Lutheran Church Men. Mr. Aubrey Mauney, president of the United Lutheran Church Men, will appear on the program both Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Mauney makes his home at King Mountain, North Carolina, and owns and operates a textile manufacturing plant in that area. Theme of the convention is “Lay Preaching for Christ in a Changing World.” In keeping with this theme, the speaker Sunday afternoon will be the Rev. Donald W. Stoughton, director of lay preaching for Hamma Divinity School, Springfield, Ohio. A workshop will be conducted following Pastor Stoughton’s lecture. Registration will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, convention called to order at 2:00 p.m. Saturday evening there will be a cook-out. Sunday morning the men will attend the church services; vespers will be at 2:00 p.m., followed by the afternoon program. The banquet will be at 5:30 p.m.

If you have received coupons at your door, be sure to sign them before turning them in. Follow These Rules For those given with purchases see that percentage conforms with amount of the transaction. Dugan-Hesselgrave Miss Barbara Jean Hesselgrave will become the bride of Joseph Eugene Dugan Feb. 3, 1962, in St. Christopher’s Catholic Church. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Hesselgrave, 4974 West 13th Street. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Dugan of Brownsburg. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Marian College and of St. Vincent’s School of Mecial Technology. Mr. Dugan is an alumnus of Butler University. His fraternity is Phi Delta Theta. Westwood Luncheon Bridge October 11 On October 11th, Wednesday, the first Luncheon Bridge.of the season will be held at Westwood Country Club. Paul Harris will stage a style show. Piano Teachers To Meet The monthly meeting of the Indianapolis Piano Teachers’ Assoc, will be held Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the Wilking Piano. Co. Barbara M. Martin, piano tuner and technician will speak on the subject “This You May Not Know About Your Piano.” Preceding the regular business session, an executive board meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. The first co-operative recital of the IPTA will be held October 13 at 8 p.m. in the Wilking auditorium.

Norquest - McWilliams The marriage of Miss Sandra Jane Norquest and D. Eugene McWilliams took place Saturday, Sept. 30th in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Speedway. The Rev. Phillip Bigelow performed the double ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. C. Lee Norquest, 8620 Crawfordsville Rd. and Mr. and Mrs. D. C. McWilliams of Clermont. The bride was gowned in a lovely ice blue satin sheath dress featuring a scoop neckline and long bridal point sleeves. The skirt was highlighted with an overskirt made of Chantilly lace. Her shoulder length veil of ice blue illusion was attached to a headpiece of ice blue velvet and she carried a cascade arrangement of blue and white Amazon lilies. Her father gave her in marriage. Miss Michelle Norquest, sister of the bride and only attendant was gowned in irredescent green satin with matching headpiece. She carried an arrangement of bronze mums. Best man was Mr. James Hogg of Lexington, Kentucky. Ushers were Robert McWilliams of Valparaiso and Steve McWilliams of Clermont. A wedding reception for members of the families was held in the home of the brides parents. Serving were Jane Johnson and Ellen Jacks. The young couple are students at Indiana University Extension and are at home at the Broadacre Mobile Home Park at 9880 West 10th St.

Dault, President of the Speedway Lions Club, was recently honored by the American Red Cross on September 21, 1961. Mr. Dault received an award for his five years of volunteer service to the American Red Cross. The program was in conjunction with the Annual Meeting that was held at the Chapter House. Dault serves on the Water Safety Committee.

SPEEOWAY METHODIST MEN'S CLUB TO HAVE DINNER OCTOBER 16 The Men’s Club of Speedway Methodist Church will have their first dinner meeting of the new year, Monday evening, October 16, 1961, at 6:30 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall. A very interesting program has been planned. Mr. Clifford Risley, Jr., a chemist in the Radiological Section, Indiana State Board of Health, will show a color movie on “The Facts About Fallout.” Following the movie there will be a question and answer period. AU men of the community are invited to attend. Tickets are $1.25. Reservations must be in to Mr. Tom Long at AX. 1-4029 on or before Thursday evening, October 12, 1961. Speedway Lions Club New Project The Speedway Lions Club will launch a new project beginning the week-end Oct. 7th. They plan to paint the house numbers of every house in Speedway on front steps or sidewalks. These numbers will be 4 inches high, black numbers on white background. There will be a charge to the resident of SI.OO per house. The Speedway Lions Club appreciates the loyalty and cooperation which the citizens of Speedway have backed our many projects. All funds raised wiU go to such causes as the Leader Dog, Eye Bank and Heart and the Cancer Fund. Be ready when the team members call on you. We want everyone in Speedway to know about this project. Speedway Homemakers The Speedway Homemakers will have their October Meeting, Thursday the 12th. Mrs. Vye Parke will act as hostess and she will be assisted by Ernestine Neat and Fran Gebauer. The group will meet at the Hawthorn Room for lunch and each member will be advised of the exact time by the telephone committee. Black's Dance Studio Forming New Classes The Black’s Dance Studio announces that new classes are forming at the present time in all types of dancing, including tap, toe, acrobatic, ballet, jazz and ballroom. The Black’s studios are qualified to give your child the finest dance training in all phases of the dance. When a pupil is properly taught any type of dancing by qualified teachers, physical fitness is the natural result, as proper training in dancing develops the body as well as the mind. The x teachers in the Black’s studios are all members of the Chicago National Association of Dancing Masters, having had to pass rigid tests, both oral and demonstrative. t The studios teachers are Henry Barnard, who, having had twelve years of training by the Black’s, has been dancing professionally since he was ten years of age and has had two years of teaching experience. He is a dance major at Butler University and a member of the Dancing Masters Association. Mr. Barnard has studied acrobatic, aerial, ballet, tap, etc. Gwendolyn Goff has had ten years of training, two years of teaching experience and is a member of the Dancing Masters Association. Johnny Black, well known for all kinds of dance training, has taught the ballroom classes at the Westwood Club for the past five years, did the choregraphy for the operettas at the Speedway High School as well as the dances for the Music Festival at the Ben Davis High School. Mr. Black has pupils appearing in pictures in Hollywood and has taught teachers on national faculties. Mrs. Black, in addition to teaching on national faculties, has taught many well known teachers, dancers and acrobats in and around Indianapolis. Mrs. Black holds a Masters Degree and a life membership with the Dancing Masters Association. The Speedway studio, one of three locations, is located at 4903 Ford St.
