Due to the fact that moderate flooding has occurred at times in the area selected for the new station, preliminary sketches call for the station to be elevated to conform to the grade level of the present facility.
Board members after a brief discussion expressed accord with the initial plans, with the provision that the dormitory area be reduced to accommodate only 12 men instead of 16 as proposed by the architects. Target date for opening of the new station is Sept. 1, 1962. Construction drawings are expected to be ready within approximately three months for distribution to potential bidders. In other business, the Town Board took under advisement a request by Robert O. Farley, West Side developer and builder to connect his planned new retirement village into the Speedway sewer system. To be built on an 18-acre tract at 7900 West 10th Street, the single-story apartments are designed for persons over 50 years of age.
