DRAG RACES Hoosier drag racing fans will get a “preview look” of the 7th Annual National Championship Drag races scheduled at Indianapolis Raceway Park Sept. 1-4. The preview will be Sunday at Raceway, and heading the list of competitors will be Jack Chrisman, currently the point leader in the chase for the World Championship of drag racing. Chrisman, who drives a twin Chevrolet-powered AA dragster capable of 1,000 horsepower, notified officials of Raceway Park that he would be at the track Sunday for some test runs. The car Chrisman will drive at Raceway Park is one of the most popular in the sport today. The twin engines are boosted by GMC superchargers, and together have a cubic inch displacement of 636 inches. The entire car weighs only 1700 pounds. As an added incentive for the dragsters running in the “National Pre-view,” special prize money will be awarded. Junior High youth will portray, by means of an original puppet show, a scene involving Abraham and Lot. In addition to the dramatic productions the Junior-Junior High Vacation Church School Choir will provide special music. Mrs. John Farley is directing the choirs. Following the program light refreshments will be served to parents and friends at the display open house. Mrs. Joseph Bigelow and Mrs. Ewald Svoboda, superintendents of the school, are coordinating the closing program. Sunday, August 20, 9:30 a.m.—Sunday Church School for all ages. 10:45 a.m.—Worship Service. Following the service a coffee hour reception will be given honoring Miss Sue Fiedler, St. Andrew’s new Director of Christian Education, who will be installed that day.
