Indpls. Hiking Club The Indianapolis Hiking Club will hike in Mounds State Park on Sunday, August 13. There will be a cook-out in the evening. Meet at 1:00 p.m. east side of the State House. Hoosier Hundred Signed entry forms for Dick Rathmann and Elmer George increased the official list to seven today for the ninth annual Hoosier Hundred championship race at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Sept 16. They joined Rodger Ward, A. J. Foyt, Eddie Sachs, Pamelli Jones and Bobby Marshman for the USAC 100-mile dirt track event; and Promoter Joe Quinn expects a field of at least 30 to participate in the time trials. Only the 18 fastest qualifiers, however, will be eligible for starting positions at 3 p.m. Gates to the grounds will be opened at 9 aan., with practice scheduled to start at noon. Reserved seats are priced at $6, $5 and $4. including federal tax and general admission. time, he is a veteran of six Indianapolis 500-mile races. He made his best showing at the big oval by finishing fifth in 1956 and he was running fourth this year when a broken fuel pump ended his chances after 164 laps. His record on the one-mile tracks this year includes a third at Milwaukee, fourth at Trenton and sixth at Langhorne. He will be at the wheel of Lindsey’s Hopkin’s Autolite Special in the Hoosier Hundred. Elmer George has driven in three previous Hoosier Hundred events, making his best showing in 1957 when he placed sixth. He also earned a starting position as a rookie in the “500” that year. His record this season includes a fourth-place finish at Langhorne and eighth place at both Trenton and Milwaukee. He will drive Mari George’s H.O.W. Special in the Hoosier Hundred.
