Your A Hay Ground News i Ip? Despite the bad weather conditions attendance at the Parks has been very good. The average daily attendance at the Main Park has been 158 and at the Meadowood Park it has been 102. The Story Hour got under way Wednesday, June 21. The Storytellers all did a fine job in holding everyone’s attention. Storytellers for July 5 at the Main Park are as follows: Julie Noble, Sandra Bishop and Miss Middough. At the Meadowood Park they are: Ruth Muir, Jean Walker and Linda Doll. Because of Independence Day, July 4th, there will be no park supervision; however, if you are planning a picnic, the Speedway Parks are available to you with facilities for recreation for all ages. The Chinese Checkers and Checkers tournaments got underway Monday, June 26 at the Main and Meadowood Parks. Ribbons will be given to the first three places in each age division. The Chess tournament will begin Monday, July 3. Registration will be held at 9:00 and the drawings will be made at 9:30.
All during this week the Peanut leaguers have been choosing captains and teams. At the writing of this article only the Main Park teams have been chosen. They are: Giants, coached by Tom Strouse and captained by Steve Weaver. The Blue Flashes, coached by Ron Ray and captained by Rick Crumley, Pirates, coached by George Heaney and captained by Kevin Deardorff and finally the Wildcat Garielas, coached by Curt Leonard and captained by Jerry Knoblitt. The Basketball courts have been busy at 9:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There has been a good turn-out for this program. Approximately 25 boys have shown up each day. The program is made up basically of fundamental skills of the game and games. This program is being run by Bob Oliver, Jim Waggoner and Bernard Sanders. The new basketball courts at the Meadowood Park have been poured and should be open for use sometime this week. These courts were donated to the park by the Speedway Lions Club. This is a fine contribution to Speedway and the young citizens of this community. We of the Park Staff say, thanks, to a wonderful organization for all they have done for Speedway. Jim Crumley, CH. 4-8229. Dishes—Dishes—Dishes I have a large assortment of dishes which were left after the Senior Graduation party. Will you check your memory and see if any of them belong to you? If so, please pick them up at my home as soon as possible. Mildred Tower, 1343 N. Auburn.

ing today with the Indiana Flood Control and Water Resources Commission. Despite numerous reversals, West Side residents—particularly those in the Cunningham Park Addition which was inundated by the 1957 flood—continue to map strategy that will prevent the State Highway Department from going ahead with plans that property owners feel would be a major contributory factor to flooding. County Commissioner Christian J. Litscher reviewed briefly the reversals the county has experienced in its parallel attempt to bridge 465 over 21st Street and said he knew of no further course of action that can be taken. “We even offered to pay the additional SIOO,OOO or so difference the State said it would cost to elevate 465 over 21st Street,” Litscher declared, “but they turned us down.” What further action may be planned by the Speedway Town Board will be discussed at the next meeting along with the report on the two sessions with state officials this week. The Town Board in other business at its Monday night meeting gave approval to Louis Frosch and John McCormick to begin construction of nine four-family rental apartments on West 25th Street northwest of the new Speedway Shopping Center.
