ization wishes to bring to the public an understanding of how federal workers participate as typical good citizens in neighborhood and school work, in youth activities, civic organizations and the community at large. A Selection Committee, with Mayor Charles H. Boswell as Honorary Chairman, and including executives in local companies will select the ward winners from candidates nominated by the Federal Agencies. A number of civic organizations, along with the Council of Federal Agencies, will confer honors on the “Civil Servant of the Year” in each category of competition. Ward Off This Killer When very young children pick up tuberculosis germs, they may never get TB of the lungs, but they run a great risk of developing other TB complications. They may come down with miliary TB, tuberculosis spread throughout the body, a dangerous illness. Or they may get tuberculosis meningitis, which attacks the covering of the brain and spinal cord. Children who escape death from tuberculosis meningitis may be mentally crippled for life, unless they are promptly treated. All children should be tuberculin tested. That is the easiest way to find out if a child has become infected with TB germs. If the test is positive in a child under one year of age, the doctor will prescribe isoniazid pills for a year, even though the child shows no other signs of having tuberculosis. Isoniazid is one of the drugs used to cure TB of the lungs. For a child between one and five, who has a positive reaction to the tuberculin test, a chest X-ray is taken. If the child has any sign of lung damage, even though there is no active disease, he too, will be given isoniazid, for a full year. Studies have shown that giving isoniazid as a preventive measure to tuberculi reactors among children can ward off tragic complications. If you have young children, ask your doctor’s advice about having them tuberculin tested. And if the test is positive, consider tuberculin tests for the rest of the household. TO germs are picked up from someone with an active case of TB, so it’s advisable to find out who is the source of infection. DOHT FORGET! JOB'S DAUGHTERS PIZZA FRIDAY. APRIL J
