Services at St. Christopher will be a Low Mass at 5 o’clock and a High Mass and Procession at 8 p.m. There was a Low Mass at nine this morning. Confessions will be heard today from 4 until 6 p.m. and after the evening Mass. Adoration of the Cross and Holy Communion will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow, Good Friday. The Stations of the Cross will be followed at 7:30 in the evening. Confessions will be heard on Friday from 4 to 6 and after the evening services. The Easter Vigil Service of Mass and Holy Communion will begin at 8 p.m. on Holy Saturday. Confessions will be heard on Saturday only from 4 to 6 in the afternoon. There will be no six-fifteen daily Masses or early distribution of Holy Communion on Holy Thursday, Good Friday or Holy Saturday. “There’s nothing we can do to stop the big highway,” Speedway Town Board President Kenneth H. Smith told nearly 100 residents of the Speedway area Monday night. Referring to Interstate 465 which passes west of Speedway, Smith termed the super-highway “progress, and that’s what we want,” but all five Board members vowed to fight “in every possible way” any plan which poses a flood threat to the area. Board members will hear a report from the Town’s consulting Notice To Speedway Water Customers Friday, March 31st, Fire Hydrants will be flushed in Nelson’s Cunningham Park Addition. City water may be roilled from New Shopping Center South to 16th Street on Cunningham Drive. Saturday, April Ist, because of Easter week-end, there will be no flushing. City water will be roilled accompanied by little or no water pressure up to two (2) hours duration. WESTSIDE OPTIMIST CLUB EGG HUNT Dr. Alan Fischer announced today that the Westside Optimist Club will hold their 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Krannert Memorial (Westside) YMCA, 605 South High School Road, on Saturday, April Ist at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Fischer, president of the organization, , said that special prizes would be awarded to the finders of the Golden Eggs. Ned Sharp, Chairman for the event, has arranged for entertainment and refreshments for all participants and said that areas will be marked off for the various age groups. All residents in the Speedway area are cordially invited to bring the little kiddies for an afternoon of fun.

Thomas Jones of Speedway is among 11 Butler University basketball players receiving freshman numerals for the 1960-61 season. The announcement of the awards was made by Paul D. (Tony) Hinkle, Butler athletic director and basketball coach. A graduate of Speedway High School, Tom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jones, 5134 W. 14th Street, Speedway. He is majoring in education. Stephen (Corky) Queener, 5426 West 16th Street, of Speedway High School was one of the Honorable Mention winners of the recent Indianapolis Star’s “American Essay Contest.” The contest was open to all junior and senior pupils enrolled in high schools in Indiana.

Spring (Continued on Page 3) EASTER PAGEANT TO BE PRESENTED AT COLISEUM Plans for the Easter Pageant, presented annually at 6:00 a.m. Easter morning at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum, are nearing completion, according to an announcement by Pastor Walter C. Maas, General Chairman of the Easter Pageant Committee. In the presentation, the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ is reverently portrayed in twelve impressive scenes on a huge double stage in the Coliseum arena, and in the arena itself. The lower stage measures 70 feet in width and 40 feet in depth. The upper stage has an appropriately designed proscenium arch with a curtain 40 feet wide and 16 feet high. This upper stage forms the setting for certain special scenes, including the Last Supper and the Crucifixion. The cast of characters numbers some 200 persons, men, women and children, in colorful costume. Another 75 persons constitute the production staff which works before and diming the Pageant to make the presentation possible. The leading role of Jesus of Nazareth will again be portrayed by John Peter Jefferson, 1125 N. Cecil Ave. Mr. Jefferson has taken this role each year that the Pageant has been presented. A choir of nearly 100 children and adult voices will sing under the direction of Fred W. Koehm, and R. Theo. Wukasch. Congressman Donald C. Bruce will be the narrator. The Rev. Russel W. Hamack, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, will deliver the Invocation and Scripture Lesson. BASKETBALL BANQUET WELL ATTENDED Speedway’s Mid-State conference champs were honored Wednesday night at the annual Basketball Banquet sponsored by the Speedway Lions Club. Jim Smith, sports editor of the Indianapolis Times, was the principal speaker. He explained his theory that there is no such thing as a “dumb Athlete” and the need for further education in today’s game of life. Lions president, Ralph Wegener presented individual awards to each varsity player. Steve Thomas received the Most Improved Player Award. Jerry Roberts was presented the Most Valuable Player Award. Lion T. A. Hanna presented the Hanna Scholastic Award to Dean Hubbard. Coach Morris Pollard was presented a trophy by the team in appreciation for his contribution and guidance in their athletic endeavors. Coach Pollard announced that Bob Campfield had been elected honorary captain by his teammates for the year. Speedway Post No. 2839 V.F.W. Mr. Ted Alex was elected Commander of Speedway Post No. 2839, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at the Post’s annual election last night. Mr. Alex is a psychiatric group work supervisor at Larue D. Carter Memorial Hospital. A veteran of World War II who served overseas with the 503rd Parachute Infantry Division, he holds a Captain’s Commission in the 337th General Hospital Reserves. Mr. Alex is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and has a Masters Degree from the Caraagie Institute of Technology. He is married, has two children and resides at 741 N. Livingston Avenue. NOVEL FASHION SHOW , A novel fashion show, featuring apparel made from the fabrics (X cotton feed bags and flour *cks, will be presented at 8:00 pj.m. April 3rd, St. Josephs Hall by the St. Joseph’s Altar Society. The wardrobe, entitled “From Bags to Riches,” is provided as a ldan service by the National Cotton Council of Memphis, Tennessee. The collection of all-occasion wear includes play outfits, children’s clothes, house dresses and street apparel. All fashions are made from 1961 McCalls pattern. Plans for the style revue were ahnounced by Mrs. William Spyr, program chairman. Commentator for the show will be Mrs. William Spyr. All accessories will be loaned to us through the courtesy of the J. C. Penney’s Co., Inc., of Speedway Shopping Center. Fashions will be modeled by our own lovely ladies and their children.
