Former Speedway Girl Wins Top Scout Honor An unusual honor in girl scouting circles has been conferred upon Senior Scout Miss Kathi Fontenot of Senior Mariner Scout Troop 235 of Cocoa, Florida. Miss Fontenot has been selected to participate in the national opportunity trips this summer, of which there are only two girls from Florida going. She will go to the AllStates Camp Conference at Camp Ross Trails, Cincinnati, Ohio. Miss Fontenot, who is formerly from Speedway, has lived in Cocoa, Florida for nearly 3 years, where her father is employed at Cape Canaveral. She became a brownie at age eight and obtained her curved bar, highest award in scouting, as an Intermediate. She became a Senior Scout here under the leadership of Mrs. Fred Scyphers, and became President of her troop. When she transferred to Cocoa, she choose the Mariner field. In the summer of 1959 she completed her program aide bar at Camp Ticochee and the past summer completed her first year course as a Counselor-In-Training at Camp Dorothy Thomas, in Tampa, Florida. This fall she returned to her Mariner Ship, USS Shenandoah, and is now VicePresident. Kathi is a member of Citrus Council Planning Board, and is a Junior at Cocoa High School.
