The evening classes will be conducted from 7:30 till 9:30 p.m. in our local grade schools according to the following schedule: Monday--Fisher School, Winton at 14th St. Tuesday--Newby School, Whitcomb at 18th St. Wednesday--Allison School, Lyndhurst at 22nd St. The Saturday class will be from 9:30 till 11:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church located adjacent to the Speedway Shopping Center. SPEEDWAY DeMOLAY RIFLE TEAM Each year the National Rifle Association of America holds the DeMolay International Postal Rifle Matches. These matches are conducted by rules and regulations set forth by the N.R.A. A team and individuals from the Speedway Chapter of DeMolay was instructed by Mr. Nelson Hera, Marion County Fish and Game Association. After weeks of class room study and final exams, all members passed the dry, dull study with flying colors. Now they are ready to dry fire at their targets, which is to actually feel and handle the weapon with no live ammo in it. After several sessions of this they were ready for the firing range, under strict supervision and fired their first live ammo. This was the reward for their hard study, learning to handle a gun, and sighting it in for their own individual eyes. We then fired our registered targets, sent to us from the N.R.A., Washington, D. C. Each members name and registration number is recorded on the targets, in order to record their scores. This week I received the results of the scoring and I am proud to know, from 265 teams entered, Nation-Wide, Speedway team at their first attempt finished in 29th place. In the individual scoring, taken from hundreds of boys entered, the following DeMolays finished: Gail Raehn 93rd place, Thomas Knoebel 103rd, Joe DeLisle 113th, David Johnson 126th, Joe Scott 130th, Forest Spall 133rd, Bob Pickett 145th. The boys have never before fired a rifle under the N.R.A. rules and regulations and never in competitive matches, and I am very proud of their achievement in this attempt. We are planning now for next year and are going on with the Rifle Team. Any member of the Speedway Chapter, who is interested, please see me at the DeMolay meeting or call my home--CH. 4-0413. In behalf of the Speedway Chapter, I want to thank the Marion County Fish and Game Club for the use of their Club House for our studying, Mr. Nelson Hera, our instructor, Mr. Don Wessner for his assistance, and Mr. Harry Smith for his help in getting our targets fired, and Capt. Smith, Southside Armory for the use of the firing range. DeMolay Advisor, and Rifle Team Sponsor Lloyd Raehn Local Units To Celebrate Boy Scout Week Twenty-five thousand Boy Scouts and their 7000 leaders will join the 5,000,000 Scouts in the United States in the celebration of Boy Scout Week, Feb. 7th through 14th. Tempo Home Buyers Prove Research Was Right The newest movins at Tempo, 8501 East 16th Street, have agreed that the research project conducted by the Falender Building Corporation in conjunction with the designing and styling of their 1960 and 1961 model homes was correct, it was revealed by a spotcheck interview this week. Fredrick Falender, designerbuilder of the new East-side area, had a professional research firm interview home prospects in Indianapolis in the Spring of 1960 about their likes and dislikes in new-home design. Then, many of the most-asked-for features were included in the model homes designed and built especially for this area.
“For example,” said Falender, “the research showed that about a third of the families who were interested in buying a new home wanted a Tri-Level. In this home they wanted specific things. Our research showed us, therefore, not only how many folks were looking for a tri-level style of home, but also exactly what features they expected to find in the home. And as well, about what they wanted to pay.” The Tri-Level Home, the Trend, which was designed to comply with the survey requests, includes three bedrooms on the top level, a separate dining room on the middle level, and an oversized recreation room and half bath down stairs. Two full baths are included on the upper level. Additional homes designed to fit the requests of surveyed families include a ranch model, the Vista, with three bedrooms, two baths, in an unusual L-shaped arrangement built around a quarryfloored entrance hall. A separate dining and family room is part of this home too. The third model is the Flair, a basement model ranch house with one and a half baths, a huge family recreation room, and many unusual features. The tiled baths, fireplaces, entrance halls, and many other features are all among those asked for. The full basement is another unusual feature that is available in Fredrick Falender homes. Falender builds homes in two Indianapolis Areas. Meadowood is located at 2727 North High School Road, and now has almost 500 families living there. It is just north of the newly-opened Speedway Shopping Center. Tempo is located at 8501 East 16th, just three minutes from Eastgate. Models are open from 1 to 1 Sunday through Friday, from 1 to 6 on Saturday. FHA or conventional financing is available. They are all built by conventional construction methods. Many feature brick and aluminum exteriors for minimum maintenance.

Speedway Town News
The Speedway Town Board has requested a ruling from the Indiana State Board of Accounts on a proposal to reduce sewer-use charges to Speedway-area residents by as much as one third. As proposed by Board Member John F. Fidger, Jr., the plan would extend the retirement of sewer bonds from the present sixyear rate over a longer period. Present sewer facilities are being depreciated at the erate of $36,100 annually. Reduction of this writeoff rate, Fidger said, could result in monthly payment cuts as high as 35 per cent to users of the Speedway sewer system. Board members decided to seek the new depreciation schedule on the theory that sewer users are carrying an inequitable burden in paying off in a few years a $950,000 facility that future new Speedway-area residents will be able to use without this assessment. Town Board members also gave approval to Jack A. Ganzemiller, Speedway Civil Defense director, to purchase 23 new radio alerting systems for regular and volunteer firemen. These special receiving sets, which will cost a total of approximately $2,400, will be placed in the firemen’s homes.

Ganzemiller said that the radiosize transmitters, which will be activated from a central broadcasting source, will make it possible for all volunteers and regular firemen to be notified of a fire and its location within 15 to 20 seconds after the alarm is received. Due to be installed by midMarch, the receivers will be in 24-hour service in firemen’s homes. From 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. under a test program, the sets will be utilized in place of the conventional alarm siren. The Town has allocated $1,400 toward purchase of the equipment. The balance will be made up from the Civil Defense Fund and the Volunteer Fire Department Fund.
