Pianist With Indianapolis Symphony Talented pianist Byron Janis will be featured soloist with Izler Solomon and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in the first subscription pair of concerts to be presented in the New Year, January 7-8, at the Murat Theatre. Mr. Janis, who has just returned from a concert tour of the Soviet Union that was considered a major triumph, appeared with the Orchestra last year and was accorded one of the most spectacular ovations in recent years for his rendition of the Rachmaninoff Concerto. This year, the brilliant artist will perform Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3 for Piano and Orchestra. Mr. Janis’ U.S.S.R. concert tour included the cities of Moscow, Leningrad, Odessa, Minsk and Kiev. At every performance, he was called back again and again for encores, with the reception called “almost unprecedented” by the Soviet press agency, Tass. The popular artist is making forty-two concert-soloist appearances in the United States this season, in addition to performances in Great Britain and Western Europe. So international are his arctivities this season, the young performer, his English-born wife and five-year-old son are making their headquarters in London.
