The Altar Society gathered at Usher Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, December 21st, and recited the Rosary. Members of the Altar Society and all the ladies of the parish will receive corporate Holy Communion Sunday at the eight o’clock Mass. The ladies have been ashed to assemble in the vestibule of the church five minutes before eight. Miss Elizabeth Lenz, a social worker of the Catholic Charities, will speak at the regular monthly meeting of the Altar Society Wednesday evening, January 4th. Her subject will be “Finding Homes for Foster Children.” After her talk, Miss Lenz and her assistant will be happy to answer questions on the subject The meeting will follow the regular weekly half-hour Devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus which begin at 7:30. Mesdames Leßoy Dillon and James Dugan are co-chairmen for the meeting. Reservations must be made no later than January 4th for the Holy Name Society Husband and Wife Breakfast which will follow the eight o’clock Mass on Sunday, January Bth. Richard Carroll (AX. 1-7159) or Ken Thomas, president of the Society, (CH. 1-5457), will take your reservations. The Chairman of Family Life of the Holy Name Society has been entrusted with the responsibility of posting in the church vestibule a list on the Legion of Decency Ratings of movies being shown in our area. On Sunday, January Bth, the fourth annual Christian Family Day of the Archdiocese sponsored by the Christian Family Movement will be held at Marion College on the Feast of the Holy Family. Family Unity and Parental Guidance will be stressed in talks and panel discussions. Registration begins at 12:30 pan. (E.S.T.) Benediction at 5 pan. will close the day whose opening session is at 1:15. Registration fee is one dollar per couple. Everyone is invited. There are no Religion Instructions during the holidays. Mr. Frazier noted that the “Y’s** Armed Seevices work began in 186 L when a group of local YMCA Associations formed the United States Christian Commission. The Commission sent 4,859 volunteers to battlefields, hospitals and camps in an effort to provide spiritual and physical relief to Union and Confederate soldiers. In so doing, the YMCA established the pattern lor all civilian service to the Armed Forces. Subsequently, Mr. Frazier said, the YMCA directed practically all volunteer services for troops in the Spanish-American War, handled nine-tenths of all welfare work in World War I, and operated a quarter of all American-bas-ed U.S.O. Clubs during World War II and the Korean conflict. The “Y” also provided spiritual, educational and recreational services to millions of prisoners-of-war in more than 30 countries. The American YMCA Movement currently maintains 24 Armed Services Branches at home and overseas, operates 35 U.S.O. Clubs and Lounges, and furnishes per-
