General Motors Moves Vandallia Plant General Motors announced today that, pending Air Force approval, the GM Aeroproducts Operation in Vandalia, Ohio, will be transferred to Allison Division at Indianapolis. Plans are being made to utilize the Vandalia facilities for other production within less than a year, when the transfer of Aeroproducts Operations will have been completed and the facility becomes available. “This move has become necessary because of the shift in military requirements from propeller driven to jet powered aircraft and missiles,” a GM spokesman said. “The amount of business which we have been able to realize in the commercial application of propellers has been and is very much less than past military requirements. Realistically, therefore, we cannot anticipate anything approaching a return to our peak production on propellers and hence it would be uneconomic to maintain this facility for this specialized purpose. “At the present time there are approximately 1,100 employes on the payroll at Aeroproducts. The transfer of certain operations from Dayton to Indianapolis will require several months to com-

plete. Employes whose jobs are being moved will be offered the opportunity to go to the new location. For those who do not choose to move, and others who may be laid off, General Motors has a preferential hiring arrangement for laid-off employes in the communities in which it operates. Other GM Divisions in Dayton already have hired approximately 100 former Aeroproducts employes. “Current plans for future utilization of the Aeroproducts plant for other production are based on the expectation that it will be available for this purpose during the latter half of 1961. Pitman-Moore Changes Pitman-Moore Company, Indianapolis pharmaceutical firm, has announced that stockholders of its parent firm, Allied Laboratories, Inc., approved the plan to join the Dow Chemical Company. The plan is expected to become effective with the transfer of Allied’s assets to Dow in exchange for Dow stock on December 30. Holders of 82.60 percent of the Allied stock approved the proposal with only 2.05 percent against it. Under the plan, Dow common
stock will be issued to Allied and the latter will distribute Dow stock to its stockholders on the basis of two-thirds of a share of Dow stock for each share of Allied stock. Named To Publications Committee Leonard E. Pearson, director of public relations at Indiana Central College, has been appointed to a four-man committee to draft a proposed code of ethics for the National Council of College Public Relations Advisers. The appointment was made at the recent annual conference of the NCCPA and the Associated Collegiate Press at Chicago. Pearson is faculty sponsor of the Indiana Central yearbook, the Oracle, and the campus newspaper, the Reflector, and a member of the NCCPA. For Grownups Only How long has it been since you drank a glass of milk? Many times grownups just “get out of the habit.” So the message for grownups only is, “You need milk too," —because nutrition experts say all of us need the minerals and vitamins in milk all our lives, to help our bones and teeth.

ments. But at the same time she was becoming a French heroine she also was creating a witchlike impression of herself in the eyes of her enemies and her comrades in arms. She was captured, tried, convicted and burned at the stake for heresy, witchcraft and sorcery. Four centuries later her trial was found to be unjust and the court corrupt, and the church canonized the maid of Orleans as Saint Joan.
