A number of things are currently developing relative to the efforts of the School Board to obtain approval for the construction of a new senior high school at Lyndhurst and 25th Streets. The resolution passed November 28 by the Speedway Town Board for the annexation of the 60-acre site was to have been presented to the Indianapolis City Council Monday night, December 5. Under present law the Indianapolis City Council must approve annexations to Speedway. On Friday morning, December 2, the Speedway School Board aira Superintendent met with officials of the Metropolitan Plan Commission to initiate the necessary steps to obtain approval of that group to construct a high school. Although there are other approvals to be secured and requirements to be met, the situation appears more favorable at this time than it ever has during the time that negotiations have been under way. A large sign pointing out the location of the proposed high school will be erected on Lyndhurst south of 25th Street.

At the Purdue Student Legislative Assembly last Friday and Saturday, Corky Queener was elected as one of the ten outstanding members of the Senate. This is the second year for Corky to receive this honor. Other representatives from Speedway were Janice Tremor, Diane Tower, and John Southworth. Speedway participants in the extemporaneous speaking contest were David Kress, Alice Balmer, and Donna Muncie. Speedway defeated Lawrence Central 46-31 in the varsity basketball game last Friday night. The reserves lost 39-36 in a double overtime game. The Speedway freshmen dropped two games ing the week losing to Cathedral 55-15 and to Decatur Central 3221. The junior high teams won three games last week with the 7th grade team defeating Flack-, ville 50-10, and the Bth grade winning from Decatur Central 32-20, and from Flackville 42-32.
