Speedway High School debate teams were winners in a county debate meet held at Ben Davis last Thursday. The affirmative team, composed of Alice Balmer and John Southworth, defeated North Central; and the negative team, composed of Sandra Husser and Diane Tower, defeated Howe High School. Intramural basketball leagues are now being organized in both junior and senior high school for boys who did not make the basketball squads. The intramural basketball games are organized to give all boys a chance to play basketball. The varsity Sparkplugs opened the 1960-61 basketball season with a 61-47 victory over Avon last Saturday night. The Speedway reserves lost a close game to Avon 36-34. On Saturday morning Speedway 7th and Bth grade teams played Clermont. The Speedway 7th grade won by a 39-21 score Mid the Bth grade by a 31-29 score. LIBRARY NOTES In November each year a week is designated as Book Week. During that particular week special publicity and emphasis is given to reading good books. This is book week, 1960—November 13-19. The High School Library is open four evenings weekly for the convenience of students and adults in Speedway.
