Speedway Young People Collect $401.03 ‘ For U.N.I.C.EF. Volumes have been written concerning juvenile delinquency. Youth crimes make headlines in our newspapers. Yes, we are kept well informed of the things that are wrong with our youth today. It seems that we have put the emphasis upon the crime and unjust of a few rather than upon the good of the majority. This article concerns the youth of Speedway; and if you have any doubts about our young people you should have been at the Christian Church last Sunday evening when some 125-130 boys and girls from several of the local churches assembled for a canvass of the town. The purpose of the canvass was to collect funds for UNICEF. The purpose of this organization is to help millions of sick and hungry children all over the world. A secondary purpose is that it allows our boys and girls to share with those who are less fortunate. These young people attempted to canvass the town in 1% hours. They were unable to do this, however, but did end up with $401.03. This money will furnish 200,515 glasses of milk to hungry children,, or will provide enough penicillin to cure 8,020 children of yaws. So you see if our boys and girls are willing to help others by giving their time for a cause as worthy as this, they deserve a lot of credit. Speaking of credit, the Youth Council of the Speedway Christian Church, sponsor of this endeavor, wishes to thank all who contributed to this fund. Our special thanks to those who furnished cars and drove; to Mrs. Lester Heiser, Supt. of Sr. CYF; Mrs. Ralph Rahm, Supt. of Jr. CYF; Mr. Wendell Kern; Bob Parke, Supt. Older Youth; Rev. Graves, and all who contributed in any capacity. We are sure the children of India, Turkey, Mexico, Peru, Nigeria, Phillipines, and others would like to say a great big thanks to Speedway.

OPEN HOUSE The Lily N. Beauty Shoppe is now open. I especially want to thank all of the wonderful people who have encouraged me in this new venture and to invite them to an Open House on November 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. All interested people cordially invited. My shop is located at 5350 Crawfordsville Road. Lillian Nolte. SPEEDWAY POLICE NOTICE! We want to thank the following drug stores, Main Drugs, Rosner Drugs and Beck’s Drugs for the treats that were passed out by our police cars on Halloween night to the boys and girls who were on the streets. Also we want to thank the Auxiliary police, the Civil Defense police for their assistance in helping to patrol our streets. We had less vandalism this year than we have had for a number of years. We would like to get it across to the children as well as the parents that Halloween is on the 31st of October and if everyone would wait until then to do their trick or treating, people would not get so angry at the children. We had our first call on Oct. 12th this year. Also we want to thank Officer Howard Allen and Deputy Sheriff James Wells for making safety talks and showing films in all Speedway schools during the last week of October. If any of the children who received a treat from one of the policemen are in any of the drug stores mentioned above, please say thank you for the treat. Speedway Police Department
