Jr. Sparkplugs (Continued fruui Page 1) blocking and tackling, and his unequalled spirit, drive, determination, and cooperation. We all are looking forward to see Jim return to action next season as a freshman at Speedway High School. The Jr. Plugs, with this in mind, took to the gridiron with a grim determination to win, which could not be denied. The Speedway eleven scored two touchdowns in the Ist, 2nd and 3rd periods. All six extra point attempts were good for a total of 42 points scored by the Jr. Plugs. Right halfback Stan Hale had a field day, as he gained 200 yards scoring 5. touchdowns and one extra point. Included in these 5 scoring plays were runs of 30, 60, and 70 yards. The remaining extra points were scored by Boswell, Craig, Stovall, and 2 by Denny Murphy. Quarterback Tom Smith was magnificent as the Jr. Plugs gained 108 yards through the air, completing 6 of 9 passes. This balanced air and ground attack led to the downfall and defeat of the visiting Greenwood team. Mention must be made once again of rnu«h line play by not

only the first, but also the second unit of the men up front who make every scoring play possible. Let us just say that the boys got this one for Jim. Remember—Tonight the undefeated Jr. Plugs travel to Beech Grove in quest of their 4th consecutive win. Game time 6:30 p.m. Next Monday, October 10, the Plugs meet Brownsburg on their field at 6:30 p.m. Let’s all follow and support our boys. LITTLE LEAGUE FOOTBALL 3rd-4ih Grade Division The 1960 Little League football season was ushered in last Saturday morning at the Allison school playground. In the first game of the day an inspired group of third graders, the Cardinals, won over a hard fighting Bear eleven 27 to 6. Rick Glidewell, Cardinal fullback, hit first paydirt from the 1 yd. line and halfback Brad Black scampered around right end for the point after. Glidewell scored again in the first quarter for the Cardinals. This time quarterback Bud Collier slipped around right end on a handoff play for the point after. Halfback Brad Black raced 46 yds. around left end early in the second quarter for the third Cardinal tally. Bobby Rozes, Cardinal right halfback scurried around right end for the tally. In the third quarter Cardinal linemen Tom Farley (C), Rick Rost (RG), Alan Bullington (RT), and Mickey Giant (RE) were shifted to the backfield. They marched steadily downfield with Alan Bullington making the fourth Cardinal score at the start of the 4th quarter. The Bear eleven swarmed in and stopped Tom Farley short of the point after. Bob Kuykendall, Bear quarterback, shook off three successive Cardinal tacklers on a fine 36 yd. run around left end to make the only Bear score of the day. Fullback Russell Eppen was stopped short on the point try. The Cardinals used the closing minutes of the game to loosen Brad Black’s passing arm. On the second attemnt Black connected down the middle to right end Mickey Giant who made a fingertip catch for a 22 yd. gain to end the game. Much of the credit for stopping the Bear offense goes to Cardinal right guard Rick Rost who just plain refused to be blocked out. Cardinal coaches reported Bear right guard and line backer Russell Eppen as real headaches to the Cardinal offense.
How Much Does Our Food Cost? This sounds like it might take hours to answer. But, a couple of quick examples might answer this in a minute. One way to judee is the amount of time it takes to buy certain selected items. It takes the average American worker 17 minutes to earn a dozen eggs. 21 minutes to earn a pound of beef and 3 minutes to earn a pound of sugar. And you can really answer the question when you compare this to production workers in Moscow, where it takes 2 hours and 24 minutes to earn a dozen eggs, 1 hour and 22 minutes to earn a pound of beef and KJiour and 4 minutes to earn a pound of sugar. register SAND VOTE

Carrots So Many? If you were asked to describe a carrot, you might possibly refer to slightly tapered roots about 6 to 7 inches long, well-colored, with deep orange flesh contrasting nicely with a somewhat yellower core. And you’d possibly 'add that the top or shoulder of the carrot was slightly rounded to square. Well, you’d accurately describe one important variety of carrot anyway, namely the Imperator. But that’s only one of 389 varieties which the U. S. Department of Agriculture classifies into nine groups, according to size and shape of the roots, texture of the skin and flesh, color of interior and cores, and the length and strength of the tops. Carrot Selection Regardless of the carrot variety, though, you just be sure to select carrots that are firm, crisp, clean, fresh in appearance, well shaped and of good color. Poor color usually indicates poor quality, and a wilted, flabby, soft or shriveled carrot lacks both eye-appeal and flavor.
