Warning reconnaissance plane. In addition to the advantages offered by mobility, the stands cut aircraft downtime to a minimum since they eliminiate the need for engine shipment to distant overhaul facilities when only routine maintenance and inspection is required. The mobile stands permit more effective scheduling of engine changes. First of the stands is scheduled to be in operation here in September, with initial deliveries to the Navy to start in January, 1961. Mounted on a flat-bed trailer, the engine stand will be capable of handling prop-jets up to 4,500 horsepower, yet at 15,000 pounds is light enough to be airlifted to naval installations anywhere in the world.
