1960. Heats will be run during the week with the finals on Saturday, September 3. Butler Basketball Butler University’s first trip to the West Coast provides one of the 1960-61 highlights of a rugged 26-game basketball schedule released by Athletic Director Paul D. (Tony) Hinkle. The card calls for 13 games in the Butler Fieldhouse and an equal number to be played on the road, including December 16 and December 17 tilts against Southern California and UCLA respectively in Los Angeles. Series renewals with Bradley and Yale, six Big Ten rivals, and home encounters' with Notre Dame, Wabash and six Indiana Collegiate Conference opponents complete the schedule. Bradley, the 1960 NIT champion, will make its first Fieldhouse appearance on December 10. The Fieldhouse also will be the scene of the second renewal of the Yale-Butler series on December 30. The Bulldogs will entertain three Big Ten visitors—Wisconsin, Purdue and Illinois, the latter pair in the Hoosier Classic, December 27-28, and, in turn, will go to Illinois, Michigan and Michigan State. The Hinklemen will launch their ICC schedule January 7 at home against Evansville, defending conference champion. Hinkle also announced that the special season ticket offer will be continued for the sixth straight year, enabling fans to see all home games, except the Hoosier Classic, for $4. Season ticket holders however will be given first choice of the Butler block of Classic tickets

when they go on sale according to Hinkle. Sale of the 7,000 season tickets will begin about the middle of October, but ticket applications and orders will be accepted before then. SAFETY EVERYWHERE Some drivers think that if you eliminated the hills and curves from the roads, accidents would be practically wiped out. It probably would surprise them, says the Indiana Traffic Safety Foundation, to learn that about 80 per cent of Indiana’s fatal traffic crashes occur on straight, level stretches of road. So a driver is not an expert unless he drives safely everywhere.
