Lora Rhodes. Staver had soreness in his arm and coaches Thompson and Maple had to use Erwin. Rough to pitch 2, 7-inning games, 2 days in a row. Boys just couldn’t do anything right and above all couldn’t hit. Pounds And Pounds Of Watermelon All told, we do away with about three billion pounds of watermelon during the summer months each year. Melons come in a variety of sizes. Years ago there was a jumbo melon which grew to be 40 to 50 pounds in size. Today you can find “ice-box” melons weighing only three to ten pounds. Scientists have also come up with seedless watermelons. So far, they are very costly to grow, but in time may be of considerable commercial importance.
