ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CATHOUC CHURCH (Continued from Page 1) their love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus by attending Mass if at all possible, and by receiving Holy Communion. The priests of St. Christopher say three Masses, two in the morning, at 6:15 and at 8:00, and one at 8:00 o’clock in the evening in order to give people more opportunities to attend Mass. But the evening Mass has been so poorly attended lately that Father Lindemann announced Sunday he would have to discontinue the evening Mass if more people didn’t avail themselves of this special privilege. In times of waCr or great disaster, people flock—shall be say—to church. Then in time of peace and regular routine good living they get lax. During school the children all receive on First Fridays. We all need the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Let us show our love for Him and appreciation of His many blessings tomorrow. Nocturnal Adoration in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, 14th and Meridian streets, on Friday. Hour for the men of St. Christopher is from 6 to 7 a.m., July 2. July 2 is the First Saturday. On this day we may show outwardly our love to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Members of the Altar Society and all the ladies of the parish will receive corporate Holy Communion at the 8 o’clock Mass on Sunday. The ladies have been requested to assemble in the rear of the church five minutes before 8:00, so that they may walk in a group to the front pews reserved for them. Mrs. Joseph Geiman, Jr., is president of the Society. The regular monthly meeting of the Altar Society will follow the weekly Sacred Heart Devotions Wednesday evening, July 6. Leonard Benedetto is scheduled to give a short talk on practical politics. This is in accordance with the wishes of His Excellency, the Archbishop, as expressed to the women of the National Council of Catholic Women. More of our women should be instructed on politics and the workings of a convention. Business meeting and refreshments will follow the talk. Mesdames George Popcheff and Bernard Rosner are co-chairmen of a large hostess committee. Every lady in the parish whether she is Catholic or not is most welcome to all the Society meetings. On next Sunday at all the Masses after the Communion of the Mass will be taken up the yearly Peter’s Pence collection. All these monies are sent to the Holy Father for his work among all lands. This year special requests have been made for the Holy Father’s 80th birthday. The ladies on the Paper Sale committee wish to thank everybody for all the papers given, and especially their non-Catholic friends. Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Herschel Long who died Saturday morning and was buried Monday. Mr. Long, the husband of Lillian and father of Sandra, Philip, Phyllis Long and Mrs. Shirley Wilbur, lived at 1616 Allison street. At 8:00 o’clock on Monday morning the High Mass was said for Cecilia Carey at the request of Eunice Robinson. Aileen Kopp requested the Mass on Tuesday morning for Robert Cooney Leonard. On Wednesday morning the Mass was said for the parish. George Carney was remembered in the Mass this morning at the request of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spitzer. The Mass at 8 o’clock on Friday morning will be one of Thanksgiving offered by Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Olari. The Junior CYO enjoyed its annual summer outing at McCormick’s Creek State Park Tuesday, June 28. St. Christopher Annual Summer Festival—July 28, 29, and 30. Pray your Rosary daily for peace in the world. . . Nora Bray
