Nora, who lives at 5201 West 15th St., began her college studies 13 years ago with a course in script writing with no thought of a degree in mind. But teacher, Tom Carnegie, persuaded her to take the midterm exam and the finals and that was the beginning of her college education. Enrolling at Indiana University Extension she began taking two or three night classes a semester. When she retired from the public relations division at Allison’s in 1957, she decided to attend college on a fuller schedule. She enrolled at Marian to finish work for her degree. We are sure the whole town of Speedway will join us in saying, “Congratulation, Nora.” My Thanks First, I wish to thank Almighty God publicly that He willed it that I might complete my studies and attain my goal. I wish to thank my many friends, Sisters of St. Francis, members of the Altar Society, St. Ann Discussion Group, neighbors, old friends at Allison and members of the Indiana Authors’ Club who remembered me with their congratulations of so many beautiful gifts and cards. And thanks again for all the prayers that were offered for my intentions during my days at school. Nora Bray

SPEEDWAY'S 500 FESTIVAL WRAP-UP The Speedway Business and Professional Men’s Assoc, wish to thank all those participating in our parade and contest. The comments from the public and the contestants has been very gratifying. With the aid of the many helpful suggestions we have received from all interested persons, you may rest assured that next year’s contest and parade will be bigger and better. Work has already started on next year’s parade and it looks as though we will have at least 10 floats entered in it. A special thanks goes out to the contestants for a very fine turnout on their part. They certainly all looked wonderful in their formal attire and picking a winner without votes certainly would have been a difficult job. The findl standings in the girls division was Judy Higgins, Gay Halbert, Donna Mclntire and Sharon Thompson. In the boys division it was Frank Frosch, Bill O’Neal, Noel Shaw and Steve Queener. It cannot be emphasized strongly enough how close the contest really was. There was less than 50,000 votes separating most of the contestants and you can’t ask for them much closer than that. Once again, thanks to all concerned with the entire program and thanks to you, our customers, for your wonderful response.
