A student who expects to become a member of the seventh grade band during the 196061 school year, but does not wish to participate in the 1960 summer instrumental program should have an instrument and should make arrangements for enrollment with the band director on or before July 15. The Speedway varsity baseball team defeated Greenwood 2-1 last week to win the Mid-State Conference baseball championship with a 7-0 conference record. The Sparkplugs’ only loss of the entire season was to a Southport team that won the Marion County Championship. The Speedway reserve team won from Plainfield 9-2 in a game played last week.
The first part of the annual Honor Day Program was held Friday, May 20, before a student assembly. At this program pupils in the top 10 per cent of each class and the individuals showing the most improvement in class standing the past year were given medals furnished by the Speedway Lions Club. Also at this program twenty-nine newly qualified pupils were inducted into the National Honor Society. The following pupils received Lions Club awards for being in the top 10 per cent of their class.
